Between me and my mates the handicaps vary wildly but so does our consistency and anybody can beat anybody on any given day so we tend to play off bare feet- i'm obviously at the sharp end of that with them having handicaps on 12, 18, 20, 22 but 2 of those play at an easier course and struggle a bit more at our track and I'd suggest their handicap would be higher on ours.

Is this fair?

I do think it might be 2 or 3 seasons where an accurate reflection of our handicaps are in place as one boy only played one medal last year and got 12 which is his best ever score at ours, the others played a few more and the guy off 22 is never a 22(shot 81 last week off yellows).

In one way I don't mind as I think it's improving my game not having a handicap in place when we play better ball

It depends who I'm playing. Generally with other cat 1s it'll be scratch, higher single figures I give them the choice as I know I liked playing scratch against better players when I was higher. Higher than that it'd always be handicapped or it wouldn't be any sort of contest.

If you are off 25 I'd suggest your mate off 12 is taking the mickey a bit by not giving shots but you are correct that it will probably help bring your game on.

when i joined our Sat group i was highest handicap (off 9) by about 4 shots. They always played bare feet, so if i wanted to play with them that was the choice. Sure i got beat most of the time, but the bragging rights were well worth it when I did win.

still play bare feet, one of the guys is now off 10 and still insists on scratch and still has his days.

Def improved my game and helped me play much lower standard than before.

Yes we always play scratch, fancy a game for a score.;)

As FD has already said your mate is taking advantage of you.

If its only a couple of shots no problem but i have friends off varying handicaps and to ensure we all have a fair chance we use them, that is what they are for.
