When is it time to change to a firmer ball?

I've never really bothered much with playing a firmer/distance ball in the colder, damper winter months.

This year I've decided to try it out and see if I benefit from a firmer ball. I currently use Srixon Soft Feel so will play Srixon Distance instead.

My question is, when is it the best time to change? Now, or in a few more weeks.

I'll probably opt for the winter ball/firmer option right up until end of March.

Cheers guys!

Your missing the point a little. There is no benefit to using a harder ball, it's that there is no longer a benefit to using a softer one when the landing zone is jelly.

Both the balls you mention are cheap so swapping between them will not aid you. People who swap, swap from a £3 per ball to a (maybe) £1 ball.

Distance is a word ball manufacture put on their crappest balls...

My experience disagrees with that.

Last year, for the first time, I switched from a premium ball to Bridgestone e6 when the temps were down.

I'm the past I've had to adjust my yardages down in winter as balls don't travel as well. With the e6 I was hitting the same distances in winter as I was with premium balls in the summer.
I also think they were slightly straighter off the tee ie less spin.

Spin on full and half iron shots was plenty, but the trade off is very little spin on short shots and chips. Compared to a premium ball it feels like you get zero grab around the green.

I swap a three piece ball in the summer to a two piece in the winter. The only reason is to lose some of the spin around the greens. i soon get fed up of screwing one back 20 ft in the winter
