Hi all

Feel like I need a day to myself so have booked Friday off work and am going to hit the course.

Just spoke to them and it's a quiet day so far, so am planning on playing off the whites and throwing a few balls down during the round.

Cant wait!

I last did it in summer over three weekends. Would tee off at about 5.10 before any of the early groups were finished at the range. Would be finished by 06.45 and home by 07.30 - I had my golf fix, and the missus was happy I was back early.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, played probably my most consistent golf of the year - aided by the fact I was able to just arrive at my ball and smack it, rather than waiting and having too long to think about it. I didn't drop balls and play another, as it would've descended into chaos.

Scored my best ever bogey as well on my own. 420 yard par 4, teeing off over water, bunkers down the right, lateral water running all the way down the right, and then cutting across the fairway in front of the green. I hit my tee shot down the left handside of the fairway. Left me 180 into a bit of a breeze. 4 Hybrid, hooked into the staff accomodation area well left - lost ball - took my drop, same club, stuck it 3 foot from the pin, rolled in the putt!

I had a solo on Monday, PP cried off. I enjoy the social aspect of playing with others but equally enjoy a round on my own now and again; 7 am on a sunny summer morning on your own, no one out in front of you - very pleasant.

A great time to play is early evening on sunny summer day ... courses usually very quiet great light, warm (tee off just when most people will be sitting down to dinner or evening meal and you are out ahead of the few who'll come out for a few holes latter in evening too) a leisurely way to set up the working week ahead...

they must like a lie in down your way. got to the course at 6.20 in the summer and there was a guy on the 3rd.

love playing solo. plenty of time to muck around and try things out.

Enjoy playing on my own every now and then, no card in hand or money on the table, normally get a couple of 11 hole knocks in a week in the evening during the Summer!

Do it all the time if I have no 1 to play with , in the summer I go out at about 06.30 , millionaires golf , winter peg it up about 13.30 no 4 balls go out at that time so again normally get the course to myself

In the summer before work I often get a quick 9 in on my own, Love it and its a great way to start the day.

I love playing by myself at my home course, usually 9 holes on a summers evening (it's a beautiful seaside links and just gorgeous during the summer) but have never played 18 by myself and wouldnt like to and would never play by myself away from home, the wife and I stayed at Farnham Estate in Cavan (amazing trek by the way) over the summer and I headed out to play by myself which I wasn't looking forward to but luckily I fell in with a couple of great guys on the 1st tee and had a great days craic. So in short at home on the right occasion I love playing by myself but otherwise I would much prefer playing partners.

I play a lot on my own - my lifestyle/work life doesn't fit in with playing on Saturday's or Sunday mornings and I often only know I can play an hour ahead so it would be near impossible to get a playing partner.

Will change a bit this spring/summer when I'll be playing at least one open a week as well as some comps at home

Quite a lot and enjoy it!

Besides which, none of my mates give a flying erm, flute, for the game.

Last Saturday. In fact my last few rounds have been solo rounds as I can nip out early Saturday afternoon, I know the course will be mostly empty in the winter and can get round in just over 2 hours. Or if I have a bit more time I can play a couple of balls an a few holes, practice a few pitches. Afraid I am a bit anti social if I am on my own and want to get back, and I do the holes in random orders to avoid other groups if I need to.

To be honest for me it's mostly a time thing, I can get a pass out relatively easily early Saturday afternoon as daughter has swimming lesson, back in time to cook tea/do some jobs. But once I start playing with mates you mostly don't get much change from 4 hours, which I sometimes struggle to justify in the winter. I play more with mates in the Spring/Summer.

Such a lovely euphamism :)

But I play by myself a lot as I live less than 5mins drive from the club - so often pop up for a few holes of an evening. We have a number of nice sets of holes we can play, 1-4 plus 13 being a favourite of myself and many - a good par 5, very hard par 4, tricky par 4 and two par 3s - a lovely mix. Leaves a 5 minute walk back to clubhouse.

Glad to hear so many others enjoy it.... I (normally) only get out once a week at the weekends. Over winter we've been teeing off around 8am so the course is quiet but it's always off the yellows and the rounds are at a slow pace.

I'm playing again on Saturday morning so I may learn a thing or two in preparation!

The most of my golf is played on my own. The only time I have a round with someone is when playing away at a different course, which is usually once or twice every few months. Its good playing by yourself gives time to practice stuff if need be or you can just get round and done if you want.

If its quiet I'll play two balls one aggressive and one safe off the tee. Then play in and see which wins. Its good to see how each hole can be played.

I do it a lot after work in the summer. Great chance to go out and work on my game. Tend to hit different clubs off the tee to leave clubs in that I wouldn't normally hit. Tend to do a bit of chipping and putting too if there isn't anyone waiting behind
