A month or two ago I was moaning our course was too hard to play. White tees had gone back miles and was nigh on impossible to get a score.
Just read about slow play and the rough being horrendous.
Just read about rock hard courses and greens and being unable to stop the ball.
three months ago I read about waterlogged courses.
Winter time it's too cold, wet and windy.

SO, when is the best time of the year to play golf.

Right now. Give me the greens and fairways rock hard. I'm hitting 7 iron into holes that require 3 hybrid during the winter. Scoring is great, weather is glorious and it'll only be 5 months until we're up to our ankles in mud.

I am happy when I play well. Easy as that. And when I mess up, I will find excuses ... fairways too hard, rough too high, greens too wet, bunkers with too much sand in them (or too little), golf ball eating critters, annoying playing partners ... one of the great things about golf is that you never run out of excuses.

That said, I am happiest on a nice sunny spring day with temperatures around 20° C after a bit of rain on the day before (not so much it leaves puddles on the fairway and in bunkers, just enough to make the greens nice and receptive) and an international football match on the telly (because that way the course is pretty empty).

October time for me, when there is a morning briskness in the air but it's still warm enough to wear a jumper and short sleeve shirt.

Well Tash for me its...

  • When there’s a lushness to the fairways
  • When there’s a soft spring to the ground
  • When there’s vibrant colours to the grass & foliage
  • When there’s a cloudless blue sky
  • When there’s an aroma of cut grass/flowers
  • When there’s warmth so polo/shorts are comfortable
  • When there’s a solid warm up session
  • When there’s enough sand in the bunkers
  • When there’s good mates on the 1st tee box
  • When there’s a brand new ball
  • When there’s a pink castle tee
  • When there’s a cider in the cool-bag
  • When I nail it down the middle

Then I'm happiest
