Ok well its nice and easy, after a long time working on my swing, I played my first round yesterday and found only 2 shots in the round cut left, all the rest had a very nice 5yrd draw...

My playing partner gave me a figure, that indicated only around 3% of golfers have a natural draw...

So my question is what is your natural shape shot ????

I must be in the 3% then, naturally draw it 5 yards or so as a general rule.

Only when i start lashing at things does a slice creep in.

3% seems low to me though......

My natural shot is a draw. But I try not to use it cos it turns into an over-draw or a big hook at times. Therefore I try to hit straight with irons and with a slight fade on driver

i only ever turn the ball left for the draw. I can cut it but its forces, and although i do like the shape i dont often play it. I just keep away from pins on the right

3% seems low to me though......

Yes, like all statistics it's presumably based on "everyone" that plays, including one-a-year and corporate types.

I bet if you picked the top 100 in my club and put them on a range to work out the more likely shot shape, quite a few (more than 3!) would be push/draw players.

This week I will mostly have a natural fade..... next week it may be a mild slice. Its not pretty but its also not the end of the world when its predictable.

My true natural shot is a bit of a slice, I had that taught out of me so I tend to hit it pretty straight with the occasional draw these days.

Of course, my natural shot still shows up from time to time but that's the problem with unwanted natural shots isn't it :D

Draw is the natural shape for the body to hit as the club swings in an arc from in to out (would you try to swing a sledgehammer with an over the top motion?) but teaching for the last 30 yrs has been geared towards making players fade the ball so that's why there's so few especially at 'above single figure level'. The lower h/cap players can adjust back to hitting a draw much quicker generally which is why you might find more in the 'better player' category.

Used to be a fade, until I took lessons this year, now its a beautiful soft high draw with the irons and fairway woods and a lower piercing draw with my driver.

I am working on getting my driver up a bit to give me more carry but I have plenty of roll.

mine used 2 be a fade with my old bi b's but went to the range yesterday with my new nike irons and had very nice draw on them so hopefully it will stay lol stil got the odd wild slice with the big stick lol,but i did strengthen my grip a bit and there fairy straight now.

a humongous slice caused by my downswing, have to conciously close the face at address or during the backswing

slowly losing it due to practice but if I revert to my natural swing then it comes right back (usually when I hit a few sweet shots and get too relxed/over confident)

Normally start with a big chunk off the tee that goes 10 yards..., follow that with a thin that goes through every bone in my hand. Then out of pure anger comes a wild lash snap hook that goes 1 fairways to the left, Somehow get a necky cut back over the trees into the greenside bunker, couple of hacks in the sand to get out and then steam the putt past to try and salvage a point.....then roll in the 10 footer for a 7 .
