Took us 4 hours 35 mins to play a medal today and I had lost the will to live long before that. Big gap in front of us so not being held up and we only let one group through after which we had a big gap behind us as well.

Played in strong winds with two high handicappers (nice guys, mind) who were all over the place, lots of searching for balls, plus one of them has a pre-shot routine that makes Kevin Na look speedy.... :mmm:

Can't quite believe it can take that long to play a round of golf....

3 or 4 years ago...4h50m as a 2ball with a 26hcp golfer with a very 'deliberate' pre shot routine...looked at putts from all angles and my gentle hints were clearly a little too subtle. Must have let 5 or 6 groups through. At least it was a beautiful day.

My first ever round took around 4 and a half hours on my own, it was winter so no-one else was on the course, damp conditions and the longest club I hit was a 5 iron because anything longer went further sideways than forwards.

It's been a steep learning curve!

We can normally get round in no more than 4-4.15 hours even in a full medal field and anything longer is viewed as a very slow round. I can see the OP's point though especially punctuated by long bouts of ball searching. Hard to keep the concentration and conditions didn't sound as though they helped

Fairmont St Andrews off the very back tee's and add to the mix we had been out drinking till 3am and had an 8am tee time. over 4 hours we were the only ones on the course.

There is absolutely no comparison between the need to look for a ball and the concious activity of a golfer who needs time to play their shot - none at all.

I feel your pain Kaz, were were held up today by the slowest guy at the club, tee's off 20 mins before us and were caught by the 5th and had lost 2 holes by the 8th when asked why they had lost 2 holes...... we are being held up too was the reply...:rofl::rofl:

They were a 2 ball and us a 3!!!

5 1/2 hours to play Portstewart and 5 1/4 hours to play Castlerock its just the time they take at the weekends on they courses , no one is ever in a rush.

Today's after I made a 9 on our 6th hole. First group out and started with 5 straight pars. Stood in the middle of 6th fairway and piped two 5 irons into the bushes on the right. Actually it only took 3 hours, but mentally it was forever as I knew that I would need a miracle to win the comp after that.

Played a top (tough) course last year. It took pretty much spot on 5 hrs. We didn't hold anyone up, nor push anyone, in a full field. Strangely, it didn't feel like 5 hrs nor was it painful.

You're right though, sometimes its the context of who, what and where.

Yesterday's 4BBB saw us round, without rushing, in 3hrs 40mins. And 45 mins in front of the next group. The group behind them had plenty to say in the bar afterwards.
