I'm just interested to see what the spread of handicaps we have on the forum is? I know we vary from 20+ right down to cat 1.

Just interested to see what the average is really.

Also interested to see how often you play to see if there's a correlation between time spent on the course/practice ground versus handicap. Of course we all expect the more you play the better you are, but that may not always be the case.

I try to get out twice a week during the summer and once a week over the winter.

Think we had one of these before, but why would you group over a 1/4 of all mens handicaps under a single option in the poll (and that's before considering the ladies go to 36)

Spread out I guess I play about once every 10 days and practice about once every 7 days

I've only been playing a year, just completed my 2nd Handicap card, and hoping to get a third done in the next couple of weeks. Expecting to pick up a 28, but feeling like that could drop after a couple of comps. I play well in spells, for example, on my last handicap card, I took 3 pars in a row, with birdie putts on all 3, but then let myself down with a few holes where I wouldn't have scored, a couple of 10's really didn't help. I've broken 100 fairly recently, and carded 2 98's, so hoping by this time next year to have dropped my handicap by a few points, getting down to 23-25 would be nice by the end of next year.

Exactly where I was just over a year ago. Keep plugging mate, it all gets better with practice but it takes time, and lots of it. I shot 90 at the weekend (1 Under) with an 8 on the par 5 1st and an 8 on the par 3 2nd. Got me a decent cut through scoring 39 points overall. Just keep plugging and remember a bad hole doesn't need to ruin a good round.

Cap' as per sig. Play once a week/once a fortnight depending on weather and family activity - they're pretty forgiving and i try to get out early;). Aim to get 2 lots of 50 practice balls in at lunchtimes time permitting.

Cheers mate. Definitely going to keep plugging away. I play a lot of golf at the minute, so seeing improvements quite quickly, probably play 9-holes 3 to 4 times a week, with 18 at the weekend, so getting plenty of practice in. More importantly though, I'm loving the game. I'm 24 so haven't taken to it too late, but am enjoying it so much that I wish I'd discovered the game earlier. I've played quite a few sports, but none of them compare to the enjoyment I get out of golf. Just a shame winter is coming round so quick!

Playing off 5, one medal/stab' per week plus the odd 9 holer in the evenings.
I don't practice much as it gets boring.
I'm basically a fair weather golfer, who doesn't dedicate himself to the game as much he should.
I'm certainly not as dedicated as most on this forum.

plus 1 (working on, & not to far away from +2) try to get at least 3 practice sessions a week (not always possible as work - particularly lately - & life contrive to get in the way some) prior to the last few months before I've been based away from home for work, I tried to play one practice 9 holes & 2 18's every 2 weeks, but more if playing a busy comp month. last few months few snatched sessions at a range, maybes about 1 full 18 every 3 weeks.

6 currently, try to play at least Sat and Sun working permitting. (I work away a lot and work a lot of weekends). I've been trying to get as much practice lately as I can (2-300 balls a week).
6 handicap at my current course is good, its very penal if you don't hit fairways and greens. Looking to change clubs next year to something more forgiving and enjoyable.
