I hope this question won't be viewed as off-topic (especially as it's my first post). I am working on creating a trivia app on Facebook, which will use cartoon characters to symbolise the personality stereotypes we see on the golf course and I could use a little creative input to make sure I've got all the bases covered.

Here are the main personalities/behaviours that I've seen on the course:

- The Competitor (needs to win at any price)
- The Poser (sees golf as a fashion exhibition)
- The Comedian (treats the golf course as his personal stage)
- The Deal-maker (views the game as a sales opportunity)
- The Strategist (spends more time thinking shots than playing them)
- The Flirt (golf is less important than the pick-up)
- The Absentee (golf is a safe refuge from "her indoors")
- The Secret Agent (has every imaginable gadget in his bag)

Can you think of something I've missed? How would you describe your unique golf personality style?

Looking forward to your inspiration.

Thanks
Tim

Hi Simon,

what about "The Tinkerer",
like most of us always trying to find something new in his swing to improve it or new gear to improve his game.
but it never gets any better ;)

You have perfectly described Smiffy ! Who would have thought someone could have all those personality styles. :D

Can't think of any tinkerer's on this forum ? :D

The Dreamer - knows he can do it, doesn't understand why it doesn't happen but oneday . . . .

and

Heinz - 57 practice swings, all different and still can't hit it

I disagree with your definition of a competitor. At any price in my mind that means a cheat.Myself im a competitor, someone who likes winning, someone who will put up a good fight when in a battle, but certainly wont cheat just to win a few quid. Also a competitor doesnt like losing, but instead of cheating he will work hard on his game,so he can be as competative as he can next time.

Mr Average, Like my golf, am never going to have the dedication to be low single figures but will get to 9 or so, enjoys the crack and having a good bag and if I win then happy days, if not there is always next week.
Yep that's me Mr Average.

Thanks everyone for some really excellent ideas. I thought I had already discovered most of them, but it seems I was completely wrong.

Keep em coming. I'm really inspired now!

@pokerjoke: Yes, I think the name "Competitor" was too broad. I'll be more specific and call him "The Cheat".

@brendy: This is a bit like the character I called "The Secret Agent" but I like your definition much more than mine.

I've just realised that all of these characterisations (mine included) have a distinctly masculine angle to them.

Are there any similar stereotypes for the lady golfers?

Tim

I think gentlemen on the forum are being polite by not responding to this. :o ;)

The Mechanic ... someone who's swing is text book!

That is ... loads of different seperate chapters in each swing.

Chris

The One Shot Wonder - will only play one good shot in a whole round and will talk about it FOREVER!

You can't have a golf list without... The Hacker

Not that can be written on a public forum! :)
