What's your best start to a round?

Hitting the first fairway (and not when I've topped it 50 yds).

Eagle, birdie, then a succession of pars. Finished a couple under as I remember. First time i'd played with a pro friend who later told me he had been wondering what the hell he'd been drawn with after seeing my swing and subsequent scores.

I get to -2 and blow it ! usually trying my best to stay at -2 instead of playing safe and dropping just the 1 shot when I get out of position.

I need to remind myself that -1 is still an amazing place to be instead of dropping straight back to level!

silly silly man ! :o

just looked at my HDID stats, and my best start was 3 pars and 2 bogey in the first 5 holes, I also noted that my lowest ever gross, 10 over, started bogey, double, bogey, bogey, bogey.

I have gone birdie, birdie, birdie, par. then the wheels fell off as i thought i was good at this game and ended up with a +0.1.

3 under after 4 from a 15 handicap wasn't bad though!

I like this thread a lot as it shows very graphically the tremendous potential folks have. Chuffing hard to repeat it or carry it through a round, but does give a hint of what we are all capable of when we get it right...

Devils Dyke GC near Brighton has 3 par 5's in the first 4 holes so is renown for golfers having amazing scores after 4 or 5.

On this course, I have been -5 under after 4 on two separate occasions.

However, one lady member (4 HC) there in an AM-AM went as follows; birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie, eagle with the shot on the 5th being a hole in one! 7 under after 5 holes! Not only that but there was a car as a prize on the 5th hole which she won but I believe declined the prize as she did not want to lose her amateur status for a year. I may be wrong on the last point though. Quite possible that she did lose her status and took the car. I cannot quite remember as it was about 10 years ago.

Course I grew up with as a lad started with 2 par 5s then an almost driveable par 4 3rd hole. Did stand on the 4th tee 5 under on one occasion before the wheels came off lol

Wow. Sod amateur status... A great story and a car wins that particular battle.
