What's the worst behaviour you've ever seen at a golf club?

And making a distinction between that and the sort of yobbo behaviour you see at some pay and plays.

The best (or worst) I can come up with are:-

Booing the club champion when he collected his trophy.
A committee member being caught cheating and then allowed to still win a competition.
Members throwing empty beer bottles on the course when they've finished them.
Deliberately hitting balls at greenkeeping staff whilst they were working.

Any advance on those?

A mate of mine once wielded his putter like a pick axe and planted it about 6 inches deep in the middle of the green after missing a short putt.

did you belt him round the head with yours?

i was playing in a comp with a couple of juniors and one of them did this on the tee with an iron, just cos he put the ball in the water

Saw a guy the other week, don't think he was a member but he was playing without a shirt on and the whole group were shouting at each other up and down the fairways. We were playing behind them and eventually I caved and said something.

I saw a new member (junior) driving his buggy roud the fringes of the green and playing in combats and a hoody.

Other than that not really seen a great deal.

Lol no this was a long time ago when living in Canada and playing on a public course. The bloke was just learning the game and had played a lot of Ice Hockey. We explained the differences between the 2 sports in great detail to him after that.

Had someone play my ball once in a comp. And they were in it too. Walked up to the green to identify it was mine (and it was) and asked for it back. And got the immortal response "What the f*** are you going to do about it?". I think he got that one from Page 65 of the R&A Instruction Manual.

Of course I got to replace my ball without penalty but when we checked this guy's score at the end of the comp, he hadn't made any mention of it on his card and he was allowed to get away with it.

This of course was the same club as the earlier issues but I wouldn't want to embarrass SUNBURY GOLF CLUB in Surrey by revealing where it was.

I have always thought cross-checking and boarding should be legal in golf.

I guess this one here was the bad youngster!

I once saw a fully grown man wearing shorts on the course.

On the local Muni I was once playing behind 2 guys playing the course and binge drinking cans of beer all the way round, and just throwing empty cans into the trees. One was actually dragging his trolley across the greens. Needless to say we reported them.

On the same course our two ball once played behind a six ball, again reported.

But I can’t beat yours, a grown man wearing shorts, how awful for you

Couple of years ago we were playing a couple of holes ahead of a man and his wife. She was clearly a beginner and he was really laying into her, shouting at her about how she was embarrassing her at his club and how he wished he had never brought her out. This was getting pretty nasty so needless to say words were said on the course and the matter reported afterwards. A week or so later, the same bloke walks up to one of my group (who was not there during the previous competition) and basically tells him to drive through the womens 4 ball match in front as they were holding up him and the whole course. Clearly he has some issues with women.

A member snorting cocaine in the toilets at the Christmas bash.

Someone getting hugely drunk, verbally abusing the bar staff and then throwing up in the pro shop.

But the worst behaviour I've seen...
following a three ball (members) round the course and of the 25 bunkers they "visited", not one of them raked any of their footprints!

How can you be "allowed" to get away with cheating?? So they knew he was in the wrong but decided to ignore it? Ridiculous.

Last week I saw one of our gentlemen members playing the course whilst accompanied by his Missus (who was not playing). This was quite late (after 8). She was dressed up to the 9's and obviously ready for a night out. I can only assume that he had told her they were going out for the night, then turned up at the course for a twilight 18. The most annoying thing is that she looked quite happy to be there.
