The news over the last few days has been unbelievable, firstly the News of the world Phone tapping scandal, then another billion pound bail out for Greece, yesterday some maniac right wing extremist kills 90 odd in Norway and now Amy Whinehouse kills herself.
I might be a bit negative here but it seems things around the world are just getting worse.Oh i also forgot Somalia, more suffering for defensless human beings.
What next i ask?

Whoa, Winehouse dead, shocked! only a matter of time though with her record of drug abuse. Shame though all the same.

NotW - Murdoch always believed he was beyond reproach - he's been found out.
Greece - The Euro was a car crash waiting to happen - every economic expert stated so and no-one listened.
Norway - unfortunately, no matter what society you live in, you'll always get nutters. We've had our fair share over the years.
AmyW - no cause of death yet - could have been a stalker. If it was drugs then don't dance with the devil.

The news is depressing but we live in a beautiful world and if nothing else, there's always golf. Golf will never let you down. Except when you play like a knob.....

The World's no different than it's ever been.

Only the reporting of it is different.

Agree, stuff happens all the time, always has done, always will.

Its just that now we get to hear about it within seconds rather than days /weeks

I can remember earlier this year watching live pictures of the Japanese Tsunami, and thinking that if this was 150 years ago, news of this event would have taken 6 weeks to get to us.

Its like there are no more child killers out there now compared to when I was a kid, but the perception is that there are, so we dont let our kids out to play.

Fragger

Fragger the wise.

Could it be that we are now getting information faster than we can assimilate it?

Flood in a copper mine in Brazil and the markets are threshing around in a frenzy. Pre-telegraph age and the problem was solved before anyone in Europe had heard about it. (Of course they also dealt in real money then, LSD, Dollars and cents not 0.0000001 Euro.)

As kids we were protected from news of child abusers, unless it happened in your street or someone you knew was involved. (RIP Mickey)

News proliferates at such a rate that the greatest fear is copycats - it's how football hooliganism spread so rapidly - I don't want to see another Norway.

I don't want to see another Norway.

But you will, unfortunately. It's a fact of life. There will always be social outcasts/misfits/degenerates who believe in some form of 'calling' that asks them to shoot their classmates/shoppers/etc.

It used to be just America - Europe appears to have been affected by this 'disease'.

I preferred the old days when we didn't get to hear too much about the horrible side of the world and the evil side of human nature.
f.w.i.w. I think there are actually more sickos these days (untested theory of course) because the internet has raised the opportunity for people to indulge in their "deviances".
In the old days, a nutter would have to actively search out other like-minded people, whereas if you want to become a crazy so-called political/social/religious activist or sick perverse deviant, then it's probably easy....and once someone starts on a slippery slope..... :D
