IT was a wee bit windy at Silloth over the weekend, Saturday was blowy, but today was just unreal. My bag and trolley, said trolley with the brake on was blown down the buggy path.
 
Years back a few of us played a course called Waterstock, just off the M40 at Oxford.
It was a tad breezy and the 17th there, 580 odd yard par 5 was into the teeth of it.
The best player in the club, off 2 or 3 I think hit 3 drivers and a 5 iron to reach the green....
 
Played a round on the Derby this year in shocking gales. Was fun but wouldn't want to do it very often. Bag was flying over and all sorts.
 
Many years ago we played at Studley Wood on a day when we probably shouldnt have done, bits of trees were coming down and the 10th there is about 550yards. I hit driver and 3 3 woods and still had a decent pitch into the green. coming back the other way was far more fun though :)
 
Played two weeks running at Caister and Great Yarmouth a couple of years ago. The 7th is 182 yard Par 3 off the yellows. First week hit an 8 iron through the back. The following week I hit a 3 wood and came up well short.
 
Played Royal Porthcawl this year in 30 to 40 mph winds. Par 3 seventh, the wind was left to right and not a long hole - about 120 yards. I had to hit a low 6 iron directly at the house off the course so that the ball would come back to the green. Hit it well and wind moved it back to 2 feet from the hole.

Missed the birdie putt though !!
 
The 9th 131yd par 3, I would add the tee is raised so the hole plays downhill and would play shorter than the 131yds. Today I measured it on the Bushnell at 105yds, I creamed a 6 iron and watched it drop short into the heather.
 
I played Blackpool North Shore last year, I don't know the speed of the win but it was the same day play at the Ladies British Open at Hoylake was called off
 
Elie GC. I think around the turn, one hole was playing down wind- a drive and a easy wedge, the next hole returns back into the wind same yardage , but takes a drive-3w-wedge to get home.
Can anyone work out what the wind speed must have been ?.
BTW you could lean forward into the wind, arms spread eagle and not fall on your face.
