I was using the practice area at Cams Hall (Fareham) yesterday, which runs alongside the 9th hole of the one of the courses.

I hit a wayward 3 iron which went sailing over towards the fairway of the 9th and the elderly chap who was making slow progress along it.

I called "fore" loud enough that the fellas on the next fairway over even heard it, but the elderly chap I was likely to hit didn't flinch.

My ball came down only a meter or two from him, which gave him a bit of a fright! He then walked straight over to me and had a rant at me that I hadn't warned him, and that my lack of etiquette was unacceptable.

I apologised and explained that I had tried to warn him, but that he hadn't heard me, and was backed up by the other chaps on the practice area. He was having none of it.

Is there something else I should be doing if the target of my call is obviously elderly, 170 ish yards away, and potentially deaf?

Some sort of semaphore, perhaps?

you did all you could, once your story was ratified then the guy should of apoligised for his rant, better still would of been to query his lack of hearing fore before a rant.

Semaphore would be great. I can just imagine the rush to get the flags out and then signal, all in the time the ball took to travel...
In fact, each tee box should have it's own semaphore tower...

It's been a slow morning in the office.

We had it last week.... 16th fairway with o/b tight down the right side and a disused old railway track now used as a public path. (old course)

My mate hits a big old drive, starts right and doesnt come back...
He shouts fore straight away top of his voice. Now its heading straight at this young couple about 240yds away.

During its flight we all shouted fore a couple of times as we watched it get closer and closer and niether of them paid any attention.

Then it hit him on the back of his foot and he hopped about a bit!!!

What else can you do?!?!

When some one acts like that its pointless being nice, just tell the old F**K to back off before you smash his head in.
Maybe alittle extreme but anyone comes over to me like that, there going to get it

Quickly followed by a nice little ban from your club. Worthwhile tactics.

His word against mine, No one come up to me like that and kicks off when ive made every effort to shout

Alot of older people think they have the right to do what ever they like just because they are old

Old people dont get respect from me just simply because they are old.

You get respect from what youve done in your life , not just because your lived longer

Here is something a little like Sydney's idea...

Your word against his that you have smashed his head in? Don't know what kind of club you frequent but at my place if you started on an old bloke for any reason (the very fact that you showed such aggression) would be enough to see you ta-ta'd out the door.

Not the best idea I have ever heard....we see countless threads on here about poor etiquette and surely this just adds to that?

I mean, ok, he/she maybe unjustified in criticising you if they haven't heard your call, but surely that doesn't justify this kind of foul language and threats???

Thumbs down.

At our track we have 3 fairways that run along side each other.

We were playing to the middle fairway(par 4) with a group on the green infront, with 1 group walking up the right hand fairway and 1 group walking down the left.

My dad hit a wicked pull hook, I shouted fore as I could see it heading for the group going down the left fairway. I shouted "fore" so loud that the group on the green in front of us and the people walking up the right fairway ducked and covered their heads.

When my dad got to his ball, one of the chaps says, in a sarcastic manor "Thanks for the shout!!" followe by further etiquette remaks.

To which my dad, and a chap exiting the green said to him "If you didn't hear that shout, you need your ears checking!!"

They explained how everyone within ear shot had ducked for cover.

Did my dad get an apology.................. What do you think
