So, what's the biggest money you've played for?

We had a game today, where the winners get £135 each, so for me, pretty intense stuff. We won, so the money ramps up on the next game. Ok, we are up, and in profit, so it's all gravy form here, but the pressure is on.

What's the most you have won?

The game today was a result of an auction style event (against the rules, ok), and it cost us £70 each to buy in. I don't agree with it, but I was asked to join in by my playing partner.

Won a 80 player swindle at a £5 a head ( winner gets half )

But have won a great amount of equipment prizes etc won about £300 of stuff plus a free 4 ball at Woburn recently

Played a bloke for £50 in a real grudge match. I hated him and he hated me and the needle went on for years. In the end I just offered him to put his money where his mouth was. I fancied my chances and done him like a kipper. He hated it. Even accused me of cheating which didn't help. Good job we had a few peeps watching who told him to shut up. Saw him a few years later at a pro am and he treated me like a prodigal son. None so strange as folk

Funnily enough one of my PP got £385 for closest to the pin in two in the same round.

A whole British pound :-) Or I suppose £3 as a comp entry!

Unless you count Open events but they're vouchers usually...

Back in about 2005/6, the 'big' regular Swindle at an old course was a Tenner in to win around £80 to £100 (other placings if more players). Plus the 'low stakes' groups were £20 a corner with 'Presses' or £20 in if 3-ball - which you had to win - tie meant no bet. Only went in it a few times, winning more than my share, but it certainly made Medals feel 'no pressure' - which is why I did it.

Was involved (but didn't participate) in a big gamble once. We were 5 down at the turn and one guy (the low guy) stated that he'd never lost from 5-up. My partner and his were/are both well-off gamblers and immediately struck a wager at 14:1 - for £200. With the offer of 'the ante if we win' I shot level for the 9 - the chips/putts that I had been just missing all dropped - and we won 2 and 1!

Wen I used to play matches, society days regularly, I would often get people I was playing against saying things like "£5,£5,,£5 ?" Or similar. I always said "no thanks" and you could see the disappointment either in their answer or their face - as if they couldn't play well unless they had something to play for. I'm sure I won more than a few matches as a result because there was nothing in it for them.

We always play for sufficient money to pay for the first round, ie the winner gets the money but buys the first round with it.

Into the second round gets a third share each of 400, if we get through the next round it's a third share of £800. That said, we have drawn two ex juniors, off 2 each, so it will be tough!
