What's the longest ball?

Since I have had to change my driver to conform with the 2008 high COR rule, I find that the Srixon Soft Feel ball I was using, is now losing me distance off the tee. With less help from the clubface now, I feel that I need more help from the ball. The question is, which is the longest ball around now? I have a pretty slow swing and I hit fairly straight so I don't mind something that spins, but I usually find that the high spinning sort of balls are usually shorter in distance. Any help or advice please.

Hold the front page!!

ARGH>>>>....

I bought some srixon blue (333?) and green (soft feel) and the green is hopeless for distance. Absolutely terrible. It's no joke!!! I'm not bothered by what ball I use, but as someone who knows their distances, I honestly think this ball is very short....

I've consigned mine to miss mini-realgolfers bag. Go and buy some warbirds or NXTs. Awful....and I thought it was the sedatives making my swing even slower!!!

Good to hear that the green Soft Feels didn't do it for you either Dave. I must have been helped by the high COR Cobra driver.

I think I'll give the golfballselector a miss muttlee, I'd sooner rely upon you guys.

2 votes for NXTs.

Everyone seems to love the pro v's, do they scuff up though?

t.b.h. It took me a while to understand the Titleist balls, because I've been out of the game since PTS distance!

I might try the DT solo sometime - once I've run out of all the general sh** balls knocking around the recesses of my bag.

Do top flite make anything decent these days. I never understood the range 12 or so years ago, but most seemed jolly hard!!

Dave

PS miss mini-realgolfer likes the Nicklaus/Golden Bear Crystal coloured balls. I'm not really manly enough to consider such a macho ball off the 1st tee of a Sunday!!!
They look good around the asylum though, a few nutters have kept them as pets.

Prov1s do scuff, but then again, I played a Titleist nx tour ectreme last week and it ended up looking like a practice ball after a round and a half, even worse than the prov.

Titleist NXT tour are probably ideal for someone trying to control the ball. They go long and hold the greens without leaving have their skin in the grooves of your clubs. I don't like the red numbered ProV1's as I feel they are too soft for the conditions I play in.

Warbird's all the way for me, they added an extra 30+ yards to my drive and are good around the greens since its winter, I bought some AD333's and they are great on the shorter holes but not so great on long par 4s or par 5s. Big Berthas are decent as well, they are a mix between soft and hard and give you distance without losing spin and I think sports world has them on offer at about £13.49 for 12.

Pro V1s, I have tried them before and at £3 per ball the AD333 is just as good and hardly any different at my level.

I've been trying Wilson Deep Red's and I was hitting them quite long (for me). I was looking for a ball to stick with - on the basis of creating consistents, so any variables must be down to me - and they were a good price.
From things said here and on other threads, they may not have been a wise choice. So I think I'll give Warbirds a go - if I have it right they're good for distance with low spin?

Wilson DX2 Soft in the Winter, and I used Srixon ZURC's this Summer. I found the Srixon's gave me better touch around the greens that pro v's and didnt scuff up half as bad.

My mate Buzz plays with Zurg balls. He hits it to infinity (and beyond).

So sorry, couldn't help it..... :)

Srixon are good, but don't expect mammoth drives with the green.... :(

Thanks for all your responses. It looks like I should try some NXTs and some Pro V1s. I don't tend to scuff the ball too much so perhaps the Pro V1s would be OK. I've got a few sleeves of Srixon Green Soft Feel balls un-opened so perhaps some part ex is in order.

I will report back.

I bought a sleave of NXTs, a sleeve of Pro V1s and, on my professional's advice, a sleeve of Pinnacle Exception, and tried them out on the course today. Unfortunately it was almost sub-zero temperature and I was playing like someone who doesn't know how to play, but when I did hit it decently, (to my standards) I thought that the Pro V1 was the longest of the three, especially with my faiway woods.

The case is not proven yet. There's more work to do.
