Another recently started thread got me thinking! What's the longest and shortest time you've taken for a round on a decent sized 18 hole course?

When playing on my own i can get round the New Forest GC in just over 2 hours.

Can't remember exactly the longest round but there's been a couple of rounds on golf days which have been getting on for 5 hours.

Can get round my home club in a little over two hours when the course is empty. Took five and a quarter hours as a two ball in the middle of the field in round one of the club champs last year and with a partner "in the zone" and not engaging in any conversation despite 6-7 minute waits on most shots. At least it was sunny and I topped my tan up

Quickest in a comp, playing in a 2 ball, 2hrs 50mins. 2 over gross and finished in 2nd place.
Slowest, walked off from the 12th tee after taking over 5hrs to reach that point - that was about 30yrs ago, and I've never visited that course since.

Depends on how many in the group

Been round in 2 and a half hours as a two ball

5 and half hours in a 3 ball !!

Me and my regular pp can get round in under 2 1/2 hours if clear at our gaff. Worst had been 5 1/2 hours at west Berks.

Flying solo I can get round my place in 90 minutes without rushing.
In a 2 ball 2 1\2 isn't u common.
I remember a day at my last club. It had just extended from 9 to 18 and the new 9 was longer and harder than the old 9.
The first Medal took nearly 6 hours as people were working out how to play the holes.
It was also one of the hottest days of the Summer - lots of pink faces in the bar afterwards.

Our first round in e Longest Day this year we went round St Anne's Old Links as a 4 ball in just under 2 hours.

Scored reasonably well too.

Comp at my last place I walked off from the 13th green near the clubhouse after it was 4 hours 30 mins to that point. Nonsense.

Took me about 5.30/5.45 to go round castle Stuart!
My own place in a medal in a 3 ball, we've done it around 3 hours

Longest 6 hours, made the mistake of carrying round Royal Obidos in Portugal playing as a 4ball in midsummer in the heat of the day. Very long walk round there, and many water breaks needed! Get a buggy next time!

Can get round Filton in about 2 hours 20 as a 2ball without rushing.

Longest round ever was 5 hours and 50 minutes, captains day at an old club, 4 ball, just painful.

quickest was 2hrs, in a buggy, 2 ball, first out at sunrise at Championsgate National in Orlando.

3ball medal at my club very rarely more than 3 hrs 30, normally closer to 3 hrs. Got round on my own today in 2 hrs 20

Last Summer we had a 4-ball courtesy at a neighbouring course as we had a large event on at ours.

They tucked us in behind a society of rather dubious ability and we finally gave up on 13 after having endured a gnat's just shy of 5 hours of sheer purgatory.

It's what's all wrong with golf clubs sometimes. The (good) club which I will not name, simply didn't bother checking the ability of those out there hacking their track to ribbons. The society revenue being much too important to turn down 😞

Longest - 5 1/2hrs at Slaley Hall near Hexham. It was full of corporates and society 4 balls of very varying talents. Nobody would pick up even when they were reaching double figures on a hole. The only saving grace was it is was a lovely day and the course was excellent. I would not be rushing back though.

Quickest - 2hrs 50, my son and I on my home course, Morpeth, on a Sunday afternoon when we had the course to ourselves. Millionaire's golf.

How should/do clubs check the ability to move round the course at the appropriate pace?

A fraction over 6 hours at Oostburg in Holland. Our 2 fourballs were the first out after the members, and after two holes we caught the back markers. Don't remember much after that other than the will to live slowly draining away.

Played a solo round in 1hour 55 last summer and had a round in Turkey last month of 5hours 45. Safe to say which I enjoyed more.

Oh my word! That's appalling!
