I've just been having a look at the video clips feature on the homepage of the site. The Alan Partridge clip is a classic.

Anyway, was Tiger's chip-in at 16 at Augusta the best shot ever?

I once saw him hit a 6-iron from a bunker over water to 3ft to make eagle on the last hole of a tournament to win (I think it was the Canadian Open) - that was pretty impressive.

Does anyone have any advances on this?

Watching tigers chip still makes the hairs on my neck stand up - unbelievable. Best shot i've seen live on tv as it happens.

Thats one thing i love about the game-at some point im sure we've all hit an unbelievable shot such as these guys, ok its not the same in a weekly medal compared to the masters but still.

Tiger's putt at 17th Sawgrass was great but I agree with trueblue: Sandy's seven iron at Augusta is the one that I rate as the best. Such pressure. And an extremely difficult shot. What a guy !

Seve's 3-wood from a fairway bunker at the 1983 Ryder Cup was pretty special

And Luke Skywalker taking out the original Death Star in Star Wars - that was a pretty good shot

Hmmm it's tricky to choose just one. A few contenders would be:

Tiger's chip in at 16 at Augusta (of course).

Rocca's miracle putt through the Valley of Sin at St. Andrews. (Just ignore the fact that it came after one of the *worst* shots of all time.) I don't think I've ever seen such jubilation on a golf course - from player or fans.

Ignacio Garrido hit one of the best bunker shots I've ever seen from a bunker behind the 17th in the 1997 Ryder Cup. Downhill lie, sloping green to water behind...and he got up and down to help secure a half gainst Lehman and Mickelson.

Tiger once hit 3 iron, driver on the par 5 16th at Troon in 1997. Gary Wolstenholme was commentating and said he was mad to go for the green with his second because he was so far back and it was 310 yards into the wind...but lo and behold, he gave it everything he had, smacked it on there and left Wolstenholme speechless. It was an astonishing shot. Tiger then holed the putt on his way shooting 64.

Faldo's 2 iron into the 13th at Augusta in his last round in 1996. Hit from a sloping lie, it took off like a rocket and seemed to me to be as purely struck as you could wish for.

I'm sure there are more, if only I could remember them.

Taking up the MacMachattie theme, if you'd seen my chip in to save par at the 12th yesterday it was pretty much right up there with Tiger's at Augusta a couple of years ago.

Lovely soft hands, landed like the proverbial butterfly with sort feet on a downslope before releasing forward and rolling into the hole like a perfectly-weighted putt.

Fact that it was downhill meant it all happened in a kind of slow motion so even more time to savour the deliciously satisfying moment.

Shame it was only for par though but we won't go into the three shots that preceded it...

Enough of that self-indulgent rubbish.

I once saw Andrew Oldcorn drive a par 4 with a booming power fade round some trees. It stopped within inches of the cup...

only joking

Micheel's 7 iron to 2" at the last for the USPGA a few years back is memorable even if he is not.
