Are you talking about on tv or in person?

In person it would have to be MAJ hole in one at wentworth at this years BMW.

Other than that Tigers chip was phenomenal as was Harringtons shot into the 17th at this years open.

This has given me an idea for another thread as well- the best golf shot you have ever played...

This shot of tigers was fantastic but had a small element of luck attached, nevertheless brilliant but I have seen him take many a cracking shot from awkward lies that would be disaster for many players yet he makes them, but not as spectacular or as memorable as this one.

The best golf shot I ever saw was from a guy I played with about 15 yrs ago. he was a 8 h/c player and got himself up against a low wall limiting back swing, had to go over a stream and miss the edge of bunker then land it precisely to follow the shape of the green (literally coasting round the edge of the green in a curve) with any hope of getting it near the hole, and all this from a uneven stance in very windy conditions. The distance the ball travelled on the green was about 40 feet, the distance to the green was about 20 yds................He holed it! I would have considered it brilliant just to get close.
The thing that made it so good was the fact that he worked it out, wandering round mumbling to himself as to what he was trying to achieve and so very little luck element was evident.

Nick Faldo playing at Royal Wimbledon in a practice round prior to the 82 Masters. Just him and Sandy Lyle, the two caddies and about 20 spectators. We were walking up one hole (can't remember which) and I was next to the great man and I asked hime what he was going to hit. He said 6 iron. I said are you sure - it only looked about 145-150. He said he was and he set up.

It started low and rose like a harrier jet and came down on an almost vertical trajetory to about 2 foot. He walked up and rolled the putt in. As he walked to the next tee he looked at me. I just said "I thought it wa 6 iron too" and he creased up.

He and Lyle were great and even let some of us hit a few with their clubs which even back in those days were much heavier than regular irons. They gave each of us a quick 5 minute clinic and signed shirts, balls hats etc before going into the clubhouse.

Wimbledon Common is only 150 yards down the road from Royal Wimbledon and no one there knew they were coming. Nor did the Royal members so it was a stroke of luck I got wind of it but it was 18 holes I'll never forget

Way back in the mists of time, I was watching Ronan Raferty at the Forest of Arden (English Open/Brit Masters?). On one hole he had somewhere in the region of 230 yards to go. But he had to fade it around some trees.

He just took out his wood, aimed left, and smacked it. we could tell that it made the green and was pretty close but when we got up to the green, the pitchmark was 3 inches before the hole and the ball 3 inches past it.

Genius.

I knew Tigers shot would be the first one out of the bag, I watch it atleast once a week.

It was the stuff of advertisers dreams and I think Speilberg would have had a job to beat something like that if he was paid to do so.

The other shots Eagle mentioned would be the ones I would have said, especially Jiminez's H.I.O that is something that I will probably never see again in my life time.

Would agree that Tiger's chip is hard to beat. Larry Mize's holed chip at Masters 87 to beat Norman in a play off was fantastic except for the fact I wanted Norman to win.
Lyle's 7 iron from bunker on 18 at Masters 88 was also up there.

I think it is the circumstances that make the shot great or memorable rather than just the shot itself i.e. the shot is at the end of a Major so there is much pressure and crowd tension involved.

For me it would be a uk pro tour event at Waterstock GC on the short 11th one of the players pegged it up pulled out the driver snap hooked it OB. So your thinking whats good about that right! well he then popped another ball on the tee and holed it simple birdie!!

That wasnt the occasion that Faldo grassed Lyle up about some tape he had on his putter?

I sat in a rain soaked freezing stand on the 18th at Royal Birkdale all the last day at the Open in 98, and it was worth every second to see Justin Rose hole that third shot and hear the crowd roar, made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.

A couple come to mind--Harringtons second on 17 and his second on the previous Par 5 which set up a birdie.
Tigers chip in.

A shot i thought was well thought out was Normans 120 yd chip at this years open with a 5 iron. He just chipped it over a bunker some 30 yds short of the green and let the ball roll onto the green.

It was just the two of them playing together and so nothing to do with the tape incident. I was young and naive (16) and I just couldn't believe the number 1 player was going to hit so much club to a target that I thought I could get home to with a 6 iron. It was such a relaxed afternoon that there was no animosity from Faldo and was so open as was Lyle. I remember one of the guys (must have been in his mid 20's) asking to have a go at carrying Lyle's bag. I think he carted it for one hole and that was enough and apparently it wasn't his full tour bag.

Maybe it doesn't count as it was in a practice round but I saw Jack Nicklaus hit a 1-iron 220 (?) yards over the lake and into the fifteenth green at AUGUSTA in 1975. I can still hear the impact. Younger golfers have to remember that equipment was different then!

Seve on the par 5 10th at East Sussex National during the pro/celebrity on the Wednesday.
About 250 or so out, he nailed a 3 wood, just clipped the big oak that guards the left hand side of the green, hit the bank and bounced up onto the cut stuff.
Proceeded to sink a putt of about 30' for eagle.

It was great

What about Montgomerie's chip alongside the green into the rough to bounce and release down to the hole in the Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills?

Well thought out and beautifully executed under pressure.
