Has always been thus though surely? What about those Tufty films we endured as a kid (if you're of a certain age) telling you not to talk or go off with strangers. Granted times were a lot different but sadly kids still went missing and came to harm then. At the end of the day you can only do so much for them and can't watch them 24/7 so as long as you've instilled a degree of common sense and educated them to the dangers (hopefully not with Tufty) you have to trust them to do what this kid did and say no and get out of their sharpish. I say well done to the parents for telling him not to go with strangers and to him for listening

Hey, at least Tufty was clued up to danger, that's more than can be said for his mate Willy Weasel; proper dunderhead that one! :)
 
I think it happened when I was a kid but you heard less about it due to the lack of Television and technology in the news world.
