Gents,

After being away for a while I have decided to pop back in to this all knowing realm for........well I'm not sure if it's advice or a pick me up!

As some of you may remember, a few months back everything in the garden of golf was very rosy for me..I had broke 80 a couple of times within 12 months of starting to play the game, and I even managed to fluke an albatross on one of our par 5's. It was a certainty that once the medals started my handicap would come crashing down from the 18 the club had given me to a much more respectable 11/12.

How wrong could I be?

It started with a chronic dose of the shanks, and after quite a few visits to the pro, they dissapeared, only to be replaced with my old nemesis, an extreme draw. To compound this I have become completely and utterly unable to take a divot when there is a ball in front of me (this is what the pro thinks most of my troubles stem from). I can do it when it is just grass, however, once that little white shite is in front of me, a mental block arises from the depths of my psyche and puts a firm stop on proceedings.
The piece de resistance, however, is my driving.
Now I was always quite good at this, averaging circa 275 Yds, and prettey straight, now I'm swinging inside and very shallow at the top, which is sending the driver the same way as the irons.......fore left!!

It all come to a crecendo in the last medal, which I started 6 6 10 ( yes T E N) 7.
Thanks for coming....

Really don't know what to do at the minute, much more and the clubs might have to vanish for six months.

Rant (or is that session?) over. :p

Thanks,

Dane

Welcome to golf. The moment you think you have it sussed, it kicks you in the ass. That is what makes it great.

Did you ever really think getting to a 12 h/cap would be that easy?

We've all been there and we'll all get to go there again. You'll get it right for a week or a month and then it goes on holiday for a while.
If you've been able to do it before - you will again.

If you know the problem, you'll find the solution - eventually.

;)

Get your pro to give you a drill ( or two ) and get on the practise range.

It's all about muscle memory isn't it. Get into good ( or bad ) habits, and they'll stay with you.

can't take divots, at least not intentionally. I put it down to learning on mats, hard flat unforgiving mats. Hit that a couple of times and you quickly learn to nip the ball - that or top it.

lately golf has been good to me, despite a couple of very silly holes each round; so I'm waiting for the wheels to fall off.

then you just wait for them to get back on again.

Chappie,
If you are swinging in to out, your angle of attack into the ball will be very shallow, hence no divots.
Your fear of hitting it right is causing you to flip your hands at impact, therefor there's your hook.
If you want to take divots, place your driver headcover about a foot behind your ball and try and hit the ball without hitting the head cover. This will improve your angle of attack and swing plane.
If its still going too far left, have your grip checked
HTH :D
