Hi all - I brought a second hand set of irons in Jan and recently had a few lessons. The coach has mentioned that the shafts on my irons are to stiff for my swing speed. This is stopping the full flight of the ball and lacking distance. Would it be cheaper to get the irons re-shafted or get a new set?

Some details about yourself and your game would help.

I took up the game at 25 with a stiff flex irons and they were ideal, got a reg flex driver and very quickly grew out of it as my technique improved.

Unless you are fine tuning or physically unable to generate the club head speed a change to graphite shafts would make the greatest difference.

Only way to know is to test them all (same shaft manufacturer ideally) on the same simulator for a direct comparison (if its an AG one ignore the figures and just look at the relative numbers).

With enough replicate data you can perform an ANOVA, everyone loves a good ANOVA right?

normally I'd say get a new set as reshafting costs just as much, however, I've just reshafted and have a set of DG regular dynalite shafts for sale if interested pm me.

Depends what you bought and how much you paid.

arguably what you spent is irrelevant because it's dead money - however, the equation regarding sell/exchange/reshaft will, as you say, vary hugely with what he has in terms of both the heads, existing shafts and of course what shafts are required.

What irons shafts do you have. its doubtful the iron shafts are holding you back that much unless they are nowhere near your spec.

Reg or stiff you won't see much difference. Reg to x-stiff you would really see some loss of distance.
