A thread on another forum posed the question "what do you think you'd shoot round Muirfield in its Open setup on sunday"

i'd say a lot....!

Didn't the mighty MikeH play it this year on the Monday? If not him I'm sure it was one of the GM crew and they said the carries to the fairway alone was a struggle on some holes. I would doubt I'd break 120 personally

Our US cousins are quoting scores in the 80s as those hard fairways mean it will be a drive and a putt.....

you have to get to the fairway to benefit from the roll - then out the bunker backwards after you have benefitted; possibly more than once on many holes..... :(

however, as a long hitter from the tee I would like to think it would be about even money on breaking 100 playing the early conditions and no wind.

Provided I don't get bored after 9 holes and I have enough balls to finish 18 then around 100-110.

Much rather try to break 100 round a US Open course like Merion.

HJS your correct the boss did indeed play on Monday after, with Sunday pins and tony jacin for company, full details on twitter feed.
Score was guesstimated around 100 as matchplay rough etc. That's a SFG so I'd be happy to break 110.

Maybe I don't understand how difficult it is, but I'd be gutted if I didn't break 100 and would like to think I could break 90 if I played ok.

So, to those who have seen first hand how major courses are set up..... am I dillusional?

I'm with you R3. My old man shot 74 round Muirfield playing off 1. It was a long time ago, admittedly, and not on the Sunday setup, but would that, along with my higher h/c translate into another 25 shots?

I'd hope not but maybe I'm like you and just don't understand how hard it is.

I reckon single figure/cat 2 would do ok. Personally I would be playing pinnacle gold for extra length and roll and put Sports direct shares up due to the amount I would lose.

120+ on current form :(

I'd take a guess I'd be around 110 or so.

Today's Golfer had 4 readers play Wentworth day after PGA c'ship this year. Think an 8 handicapper was around the 104 mark, can't remember the exact figures from the other. One was a club pro ( he had 85 I think)

I was there for the Saturday and Sunday. Some of the carries to the fairway were long. I think for me, if my driver was behaving I would be around 100, if not, more in the 120 range. Aside from the carries to the fairways, some of the greens were brutal (one of the par 3s late in the back nine in particular. I didn't think that the greens looked like they were running quite as fast as people went on about, but the pin positions near massive slopes meant a long putt which is left 3 feet short or past could end up 20 feet away. I would imagine I'd have at least a couple of 4 putts with those pin positions.
