Went out looking for a new putter today and bumped into a friend who had also been looking yesterday, he said his pro let him try a few putters on the putting green but left the wrapping on them to 'protect the faces', it meant he was putting through plastic!! pro said one was shrinkwrap and wouldnt affect it but he wasnt prepared to potentially have a damaged putter.
Have to say I've never heard of this on putters, woods yes but putters, how can you assess the feel and inserts thru plastic wrapping?

I tried out some putters on a putting green some time ago and they were all 'unwrapped'.

I'm not sure I'd buy any golf club that still had the wrapper on! It sounds like the pro didn't want to make a sale...does he not have any demo clubs?

Sounds very strange to me.

I spent an hour and a half trying putters last night and no plastic in sight. Absolutely ridiculous to think it wouldn't make any difference. I'd have told him I'd take my custom elsewhere.

Been and got myself a new putter tonight after my Golf Depot nightmare. Tried out 2 of the Odyssey metal x and both had the plastic still on the head. Can't see it making that much difference myself. If it would then I can't wait to get out on the course with it as is struggled to miss on the practice green!

On a side note. The new odyssey putter range is very nice!

Don't Odyssey putters have an insert? Covering it with plastic must make a difference surely?
