A very interesting point was raised in another topic today. A playing partner of the poster had clearly breached the rules on the first hole. So technically the guy could have gone on and won the comp. if they were playing in one. What would you do if a fellow competitor in your group breached and ignored the rules in a comp. you are playing in. If it happened to me I would politely raise the issue straight away, but I guess some would say nothing, but if the said competitor went on to win the comp. how would you feel?

Would ask him politely if he realised the rule breach - then deal with the situation judging by his reply

Then I would expect him to apply the appropriate penalty

If he reused to apply the appropriate penalty - would refuse to sign his card and let the committee etc deal with the situation

I don't think there is any option tbh, you have to say something. The whole field is reliant on one another to ensure any rules breach is picked up on and either dealt with by penalty strokes or reported to allow a decision on possible DQ to be made.

I'd call him on it straight away. Simple.

Yep... me too but I have and do play with guys who would say nowt, just wondered how they would feel if the rule breaker went onto win. At the end of the day some folk just don't like conflict (neither do I but if I didn't say anything and they did go on to win I couldn't live with it) but would the honor of the game force them to speak out, just wondering.....
