Simple poll, folks. Which of the following shots would give you the most satisfaction?

A long, straight drive that splits the fairway. Going a bit further than usual, leaving you a couple of clubs lower for your approach.

Knocking a fairway wood or rescue into the heart of the green to set up a real eagle/birdie opportunity.

Flushing an iron right at the flag and leaving a 6 foot putt for birdie.

Pitching to within a foot to leave yourself a tap in.

Chipping in from within 15 feet of the green.

Draining a monster putt from at least 25' for birdie/eagle.

Obviously the birdie/eagle scenarios are open to ability and realism, because personally I have never come close to an eagle, and I'm sure good players hit plenty of good shots for easy birdies.

For me a close pitch would win as that's the strongest part of my game and I have always enjoyed it. A long club to the heart of the green a close second as I have never done that before.

As much as I love a long drive there is nothing better than seeing a 30ft putt drop for birdie.

I went for draining a putt, especially one you don't expect yourself to make, like a big swinging 20 footer.

Saying that, flushing a 5iron off the fairway to within 10 feet is a pretty sweet feeling.

Hit a rocket of a 6 iron tonight in match play that won me the match tonight. Nothing better than hitting an iron flush out the middle!

I choose the pitch as well. Always makes me feel good.

Not an option but hard to beat pulling off a shot that you shouldn't really be able to manage but have the confidence to try it anyway.

Had a 50 yard shot the other day in a comp with trees in front. It was my fourth on a par 5. Percentage shot was a low punch back out to the fairway and try to get up and down for bogey.

Instead I opened a 60 degree and decided to play a flop as the lie was perfect. Nothing can top the feeling I had when it landed exactly where I wanted it to and fed towards the hole. Sank the putt for par. Helps me realise there is a game in me somewhere.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I'm unsurprised to see the putting option, simply because its the only option that has guaranteed you your score.

However I probably should have made it clearer that these were all in relation to a birdie or eagle, I just wanted to keep the OP simple.

You can't judge the quality of a shot or the satisfaction you take from it based on your score on a hole. I hit a peach of a hybrid to our 15th the other day to set up an eagle chance. I missed the putt but that doesn't take away my satisfaction of hitting the shot that got me there. I've also hit a lot of great putts that haven't gone in.

Good question.

n 'the round of my life' last wednesday I obviously hit a lt of good satisfying shots.

But the two that made me go 'wow' were a coupl of flop shots I pulled off.

I had been practicing them for a laugh the day before, so when I left myself with a bunker to get over and no green to work with for my 3rd shot on a par 4 I opended up the 58* and went for it. It landed on the green and stayed put. Still 2 putted for a bogey.

Next hole I missed the green on the par 3 and as in a similar position i decided to try again. Flopped it to within inchs very nearly holed it.

Loved it..
:D
