Fairly new to golf and currently keeping things basic with a 48 degree pitching wedge and 56 degree sand wedge. Have occasionally felt the need for a gap wedge so considering getting one of those and perhaps a lob wedge. Generally hit the wedges well and a recent test with a lob wedge went OK. Therefore do you think I should go 48/52/56/60 or something like 48/54/60 or 48/52/58?

Try a 52 first.

Lob Wedges can be counter-productive - especially at this time of the year.

Key is getting a good set of distances for your 'natural' shots - half and 3/4 swings.

48/52/56/60 is probably OTT.

drop the 60 and work on knowing you distance with 1/2, 3/4 and full with the other 3.

Im a believer in too many wedges complicates things at times. Like Pat I carry a GW due to my 45* PW but I then have a 58*. Personally I would never carry a traditional 56* SW. If I had a 48* PW then it would be a 52* and a 58*.

Personally I'd avoid a LW (60 degree) as I found it cost as many shots as it saved. I'd definitely look at a gap wedge of around 52 degrees so you have a nice even spread between PW and SW

Thanks for the advice, i've just got to make a decision of whether to get a new 52° wedge and stick with my sand wedge, or get a new 52° and 58° wedge?

Rather than focusing on specifics I would seriously recommend that you add clubs to your bag for what they can do (add) to your game rather than because of failings with other clubs already in the bag.

Put another way, adding a club should have a solid reason.

I have a 52 because it works well as a full shot club otoh I rarely use a 56 except when hacking out of heavy stuff using its added club head weight. My 60 is my general purpose lofted club and used for most bunker shots (can't remember the last time I played from a fine sanded dry bunker!).
