Right folks, a new member, Mark, described his hole in one and in my minds eye it was a genuine tv shot (8 iron over the pin, with backspin and into the cup, YA DANCER !!!!!

What I would like is for you to describe your TV shot. Everybody has had one. It could be a boming power fade drive, 100ft putt, a holed bunker shot, anything.

Lets 'ave 'em.

I was at the Old Course in March last year and birdied the 18th, I hit a great 9 Iron that never left the pin right over the valley of sin to 4 feet and sank the putt, there must have been around 30 Japenese tourists taking pictures and cheering as it went in.

The 9 iron or the putt both of those would be my TV shot.

There's been many a glorious humungous drive, but these aren't really TV shots.

My chip in from behind the green in Salgados, when all my mates went loopy while I just casually raised a hand is up there.

I still think my best shot was the 25yd chip from behind the green at the 4th on my local course. In thick rough, to an elevated green, with a steep bank and a sharpish downslope and I put it stone dead...

...using a driver...

...oh, and the ball was appx. 10" in front of a tree (that there was no drop from).

It was the equivalent of the Bruce Lee 1" punch - hiyaah!

I've had a few but the last 1 I think that would of made tv was a few weeks before Christmas while out playing with a few friends. We started at the 10th and arrived at the 11th tee par3. I hit an awwfull shot with my 7 iron and my next shot was impossible. A 60 wedge over a bunker. No shot at all......Then it happened I just stood up a few swings and let it rip Straight into the hole never even bounced it didn't even touch the stick. What a 2, if it had of been stroke play I'd of been lucky to make boggie.

I also had the shot of my life last July while leading the club championship by 1 shot with 2 to play, I was behind a fairway tree, I took out my faithfull 4 iron and bent it low with a slight cut on it into 6 feet. I holed the 6 footer for a birdie and went 2 up with 1 hole to play.............There is a god

My tv shot wasnt a stone dead wedge or a monster drive, it was my second shot to the longish par4 finish 18th at Templepatrick Hilton Co Antrim back in may/june time playing the course the day after the ladies irish open.
Standing with what I would call a gusty winds into my face, had hit a pretty good 5 wood up to the perfect position 20-25 yards short of the ominous lake. Decided another 5 wood for the remaining 210 or so yards knowing that I needed to score a 4 to beat one of my playing partners who were also doing quite well, he had played up the right for safety with his second so I had to go for it.
A couple of steadying breaths looking up noticing there were quite a lot of people watching from the restaurant/bar balcony to the right of the green, I took a practice swing, didnt feel great so took another. I looked up to watch the clouds heading in my direction rather briskly, I stepped up gave it a waggle and concentrated on hitting ball first and allowing for my usual faint draw. On follow through I remember looking up and knowing that I had nutted it as well as I possibly could and it started off 10 yards right of the flag but was drifting slightly into the wind back towards the centre of the green. Watched it softly land on the front and take a little roll on further, still had a bit of a length of a putt but the whole way up the fairway, you couldnt have knocked the grin of my face with a stick. Even better, I watched my opponent fluff his chip so at best he wsa going to take a 5, which he did.
I marked my ball walked upto and round the hole for a 360 view of the landscaped green. One practice swing and a big puff of air to clear my lungs and hit the putt, left it to 10 inches or so and tapped in for a 4, apparently the only one of the day between the society such was the wind and difficulty. I beat my opponents and finished 2nd over all only being beaten by one scoundrel who had more shots than lord lucan but didnt need half of them. Still, I had my camera with me that day so the image doesnt even have to remain in my head as ive got it in digital format!
I think Ive posted these before but I just cant help myself

It wasnt the nearest ive ever hit a ball to the pin but considering I started off with a lost ball on the first from nowhere, I needed this 4 for a round of 74! No massive amount of birdies, just straight forward pars and a lack of mistakes makes that round one of my best ever and most memorable, ive went round courses in less before but there were usually howlers and birdies galore, this wsa just a solid game of golf.
The shot required...

First hole Birdie, the first is a dog leg left so I laid it up to pitch onto the green, I slightly slice it to the right of the green which leaves me with a lob over a bunker onto the green about chest height to me, I totally relax just wanting to clear the bunker and everything then happens in slow motion, one bounce and ping in the hole from about 20 yards yes!!!! Shame it all went down hill from there onwards lol.

Yea, it was such a rush watching the ball soar then getting a few comments from the balcony as we left the course to get our gear for the dinner.

Dunno matey, but if they were to come over and play 4 of us from the forum id say we would have to play one of the royal courses or at least shandon/belvoir or templepatrick.

No shares im afraid, just like the course, each time Ive played it the greens ran true and ive scored well :D

Andy,

Personal favourite was my tee shot at the 1st at Craigielaw, last summer. Short, bunker strewn par 4 with a green conceived by the devil, for those not in the know.

There was a pro-am being played the following day, so all the pros were out practicing. My partner and I were huckled onto the tee by the starter in between some. All eyes are on us.

No practice swings. Just both stood up and launched 2 lovely high, fades onto the heart of the green, very casually.

"Thanks, lads" we said, nonchallantly, to their bemusement.

Pissed ourselves laughing half way up the fairway, though. It's a 1 in 50 shot.

tricky one there is a few to pick from. freshest in my mind would be the 300+ drive on the 7th 535yrds par5 this sunday or the second shot the 200yrd five iron(blind shot) faded onto the green. what made it good was judging the gale force winds! coming from left to right . Mad shot i loved it. shame the rest of my round was a bit poop.

My tv shot quite literally is a tv shot (to anyone who has the video anyway) Years ago when I were a young lad on a family trip to Florida we were playing a floodlit par 3 course. I can’t remember the exact distance of the putt, but between 30/40 feet. I gave it a good smack and it meandered its way into the hole with a precision that I have not been able to match since - would love to say I read it but being relatively new to the game it was more stand, hit and hope.

My mum was capturing the round on camcorder and whilst my dad was preparing for his shot all you can hear is me shouting “did you get that?, mum, did you get that?” – Etiquette was missing ever so slightly…but it was an amazing putt :)

I remember we were playing in the summer matchplay foursomes….we won it that year. It’s a long 430 yard par four and my partner Michael pushed our second shot wide right….pin high though. The only problem being the firm platform green and the two bunkers to go over. Too far and you easily go over the other side, a little short and the ball will roll down into the bunker. My sand wedge still had quite a sprinkling of sand on the face and I knew if I hit the ball without cleaning the sand from the club that it would generate lots more spin. With no practice swing I played the shot, dropping the ball inches short of the pin, to stop on the next hop. That took us two up and we never looked back.

Short sided myself in a pott bunker on our 2nd hole (170 yd par 3) had about 2ft of green to work with and a pretty flat lie.

Hit it so sweetly, took one bounce and stopped dead - tap in 3. the best par I have ever made. Would never have attempted the shot if it wasn't match play.

Don't know if this counts.
Short par 3, hook off the tee and a stiff sidewind propels it into the lake.
Reload, high over the green, to hit the pin and stop dead 6 in from the hole.

Was stuck 6ft behind a tree in the rough, had no way of getting over it to the green which was 65 yards away.

Took the 5 iron out and played a low punchy one with a bit of a cut that carried 50 yards, bounced once and rolled to within 1ft of the whole.

If I tried this 100 times I don't think I could ever repeat it.

I took it on as I was in a foul mood as I had shanked my 2nd into the right rough, If I had been thinking straight I would have gone sideways onto the fairway.

Hit what I think was a TV shot at the weekend.

Par 3 6th at Muckhart, pulled my tee shot left into the rough had a 6ft slope/bank to hit over, but had to keep the ball low so it would go underneath the heavily overhanging branch of a tree, probably a gap of about 2ft. Perfect landing spot was the upslope at the edge of the green. Total diatnce to hole about 30 yards.

Ball was sitting up well. I went through the clubs in my bag and plumped for the 5 iron.

Knocked it through the gap, landed just where I wanted and fed down to the hole, hit the pin and came to rest at the side of the hole.

Obviously it was a bounce game, would never have attempted anything like that in a medal!

My TV shots are like preverbial buses. I wait ages for one and two come along at the same time.

1. The 8th on Friday in the GM match.

Pulled drive left at 369 par 4. I was down in the dunes with a blind shot of 125 to the centre of the green and knocked it to 5 feet. Bagged my 3rd biride in a row.

2. The next hole, 205 to the pin par 3 and I shouted the shot before trying it. I hooded a 4 iron and pushed it out right to draw back in missing the hump in front of the pin and the ball stopped 12 feet from the pin but missed the putt.

I would give myself 1000/1 odds on ever doing that again.
