What was your starting handicap?

Just out of interest, ignoring where you are now, what was the first handicap you were ever allocated and how long had you actually been playing the game when you got it?

My first "official" handicap was 21 and I had been playing for 2 years when I received it.

22, when 24 was the max, and playing only a few months.

It lasted only a fortnight until I had a good round in a "friendly" 4BBB against the Club President and another Committee Member.

Cut to 18 before I had even left the Clubhouse.

16 - and within 2 months - 13. Struggled ever since

played at 9 hole muni after school with mates for about 1-2 summers, joined a club and got an 18 h/cap, dropped like a stone in 1st year due to long summer hols and heatwaves (those were the days) where we played everyday twice a day

First HC 17.0 after around 20 rounds of practice
got down to 5 in around 18 months...been on the 0.1 increase escalator ever since

After a couple of years as a nomad 'darn sarf' and 1 year in Edinburgh, joined Whitekirk (and Craigielaw pretty quickly as well!) and got a 12.

How long had you been playing before you got that 16?

12... after a year or so.... It's still 12 2 years later, but there are reasons for that...

As a junior I think it was 24 or so aged 11. Back in a time of blades, DDH Marathon balls and 54 holes a day in the summer without feeling tired

28 but I had only been playing a matter of weeks when I got it. Got down to 20 in 4 months and 18 after 12 months before a ten year break.

18 after a couple of years playing very infrequently. 25 years later and I am at my lowest ever and still improving.

First handicap was last June of 25 after being a three or four times a year golfer for many years.

28 when i was junior, 44 points in my first junior stableford soon changed that though.

I'd "retired"from Cricket so needed something to do.
Spent a Winter on the range every Sunday for a couple of hours working things out, joined in Feb, my 3 cards were in by early March..

26 for me......didnt put in for a hcap until around 4 weeks after joining my golf club.....previously had played or a year "socially" at my 1s club.
