Have about £200 to spend on new equipment this Xmas.
Been on the lookout for a driver and have got the list down to the following:
G2 stiff grafalloy blue
Benny stiff grafalloy red
G10 custom fit (or Rapture V2 )

The G2 is very straight but not as long as my old R7. The Benny is longer but slightly more erratic than the G2. I have always bought the latest equipment and always a big name so I am I am tempted to go for a custom fit g10 or Rapture V2 rather than the G2 (old) and the Benny (not a bigger name. jeez I am a golf snob!).

If I go for the G10 that will be all my money gone. I have looked at my Scoresaver stats and for saves I am playing to a 26 handicap. I have struggled with my R7 gap wedge (bit too wide on the sole) and am tempted to replace it with a cg14 50deg, if I could find one to try.

Should I go with the G2 or Benny along with a new gap wedge or blow all my money on a custom fit G10 or Rapture V2.?
Should really be the first option but the custom fit is more fun!!

Go c/f on the G10. If you don't it will always be in the back of your mind, and you will end up doubting the decision you made, and then do it anyway having already made an expensive mistake.

G10.

What do your stats say. How many fairways are you actually hitting and how many GIR's do you hit. What is your up and down stats and putting like.

My advice would be shop around as many of the 2008 models are starting to come down (Callaway HyperX driver £99 in AG) as the new models for next season start to arrive

Just had a quick blast with one of these Callaway's in AG and have to say that I was very impressed. I'm also looking at a new driver and Its a choice for me between the HyperX, Nike Sasquatch 5000 and the Adams Insight XTD A3.

The guys in AG were very helpful and unlike Direct Golf where they try to ram Adams down your throat the guy was even telling me to maybe continue with my Cobra.

A Benny is a driver from Ban Sayers. It gets good reviews in the mags.

The Titleist will come down even more in a month when the new 909s hit the shops. This driver really does have to be c/f, more so than any other.

The G10 is a safe choice.

The Benny is made by Ben Sayers. It was GM best driver on test a few months ago

Well I can't say anything about sayers as I haven't seen them - they sound awful though.

My advice is find the shaft that i right for you and then find a head you like the look of and that sits square(good luck on the sitting square bit!) then you're off and running......the shaft is the key though

Benny drivers are good for the price and feel great off the face, though a tad light for me, but are the G10s a £100 better? I wouldnt have thought so.

Have a go with the titleist 907-D1, available for £140 or so now it is one hell of a driver.

I've had a 907-D1 for a while and it's a great driver. The only drawback is the dreadful noise it makes upon impact, but I can live with that...

I use a D1, and although it sounds a bit broken, it is still way better than a square Nike or any Cobra. Cally always sound a bit dead to me.

If you want a nice sounding driver, TM always sound good, but hard to find one which sits square.

Come on Stuart, you know you want the G10.
Go get it. You know it makes sense.
I had the same quandry around this time last year when I was thinking of getting an older driver as well as a putter, but afetr my fitting decided to get the new shiney G10.
I haven't regretted my decision for a singe minute.
I haven't met anyone with G10 who hasn't said it was the best driver ever.

Do you change your kit regularly to keep up to date for the sake of it, or, buy what you need for the sake of your game?

If it's the latter, it sounds like you fancy the G10, then go for that. The wedge, at a lot less money, will find a home in your bag before the start of next season I suspect. You'll find a way I'm sure. Lets face it, at the price of a pint nowadays, it's only the price of one evening out.

Guessing that like many of us, budget is squeezed at the moment, otherwise I'd say, sod the cost!

'fraid I can't comment on the merits of each club, but I do know that if you don't get what works for you, you'll only regret it and the club won't work for you (physcologically speaking), and will very quickly find a home in the garage.

Good luck.

Why just get fitted for a G10, go get a propper fitting and try thm all with different shaft combo's and see what you hit the best. I bet there are tons of drivers/shafts for around and under the £200 mark right now!

G10.

This is spot on and I agree 100% it happens to golfers regularly, don't let it be you! Plus the G10 is a quality club.
