what should we do we have a fourball that go out infront of us every wednesday and saturday that after about the 6th hole they hold us up all the way round without fail and will never let us through even tho some of our group have pulled them in the club house after for example last night on the 7th we were about to tee off as they was no 1 in sight then all of a sudden 1 of them walk out from the trees across middle of fairway looking for his ball we were stood then waiting for 5 mins till they had all got out of range an then held up on every tee and second shot until the 18th tee would a letter to the committe be a good thing id like your opinions please cheers beggsy

As this is a pattern of repeating behaviour, I would walk up the fairway, especially in the instance where you waited for 5 minutes, and politely state that you are going to play through and trust that they have no objection..

If they do not comply then I would continue to say that if they don't behave in a more gentlemanly fashion then you will be writing to the committee about their conduct.

.....and breathe.

Beggy - any chance of any punctuations in your posts mate, it would be a lot easier reading them then !

If it were me, I'd be having a straight talking word to them pointing out that they should be letting faster players through, and if they didnt take note, then a formal complaint would go in to the Committee.

Dont start clattering balls up to them though, that'l put you on a sticky wicket .

you want to try find out whats delaying them ,is it them or is it group/groups ahead, keep a record of how long it taking you to play your round if possible see how long it takes the group directly in front of them to go around , then you have hard facts to go to ranger /secratery with, they groups behind you must also b delayed so chat with them & a few of ye report it .. any chance of changing your time? i know people will say you shouldnt have to & fair enough, but if it helps , why not?

Ask them at every hole...and even in the bar after. As they're ordering their beers push past and get yours first then slowly keep ordering...they'll soon get the hint.

Failing that it's a letter to the committee me old fruit!

Ask them whether they have ever read the final paragraph on Page 27 on The Rules of Golf 2008/2011 regarding The Pace of Play.

Just by chance have a copy of the book available.

all good advice but he needs to have record of time taken per round tho doesnt he , i mean his group could be all low handicappers & fly around where as the other group may not & dont, it would be better to compare how long it takes the slow group compared to time allowed by the club ,, wouldnt it or am i been to nice here?? Did see a good notice on this very subject once tho "YOUR PLACE ON THE COURSE SHOULD BE DIRECTLY BEHIND THE GROUP IN FRONT OF YOU RATHER THAN DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE GROUP BEHIND YOU "

sorry about the punctuation but not my strong point also its the times that our group have always had bearing in mind on a saturday we start teeing off at 7am and the time on a wednesday is decided by work times

Get to the 1st tee before they have teed off and have a (very) polite word with them. Explain that one of your group has to be back as soon as possible and if they find that they have lost ground and see you waiting, would they mind calling you through. Suggest that a suitable par 3 would be best as they can call you up, finish the hole themselves, wait you putt out and tee off on the next. That way they would only lose a few minutes off their round.

Rather than risk the ignominy of letting you through, they might actually speed up a bit.

Be polite over a course of a few weeks, be direct after that and then put it in writing formally. If your club don't want to know then not much else you can do after that other than threaten to go en masse elsewhere with the potential loss of revenue that would entail
