21 years ago I was sailing home from the Falklands and we had a week's stopover in Barbados. There were about 4 of us on the ship that were keen golfers and played whenever we could. The day after we pulled into Barbados we were invited to play in the Sandy Lane pro celebrity event. Unfortunately I had to decline as my wife had flown out for a holiday. It still haunts me now when I think of what I missed.

I was offered to play the twenty ten course last summer by a family friend. The day before it was beautiful sunshine, the day after it was beautiful sunshine, but on the day it absolutely poured down all day so the family friend decided he didn't want to play :/ was so gutting. But I'm finally playing the course this December :)

I try and look to the future and not dwell on what could have beens. Had a few opportunities to play with some famous faces of their day and a few top courses but didn't get to do so. Cest la vie.

Hillside gm meet, problem at home prevented me going, boat was booked, hotel booked, mate had got the OK from his missus and I had to cancel the night before. Gutted for my mate tooas it wasnt just myself that missed the day. Missed a curry night with Mike too.

Last day of holiday in Mauritius Cancelled a round at Le Touessrok To go on an island tour with my wife.

came 2nd in a Darren Clarke perpetual trophy qualifier on count back. winner got to represent the club.

our eventual winner knew he couldn't make it and only informed the club 3 days before. I got a phone call to ask if I would like to play.

turned out it was the same day I had booked to move to England. instead of playing I sat on a boat by myself watching time go in slow motion.

gutted!

When I worked in norway we had monty, immelman, and woosnam out for a pro am, got asked to play in a practise round in one of the groups with them turned it down as I was playing crap and regretted it for years after! Turned down a corporate at wentworth and the belfy over the last couple of years for the same reasons!

Is that why you keep rescheduling with me.....:o

Should have combined the two, what with the course being on its own island anyway :)

Can't really make you feel better for missing it though, the course is salivatingly good

Easy. The Old Course St Andrews, May 1996

Booked my pilgrimage to the home of golf -a long weekend in early May. Settled into my B&B and then down to the starters hut to see about getting in the ballot for the Old Course. "Sorry Sir, all booked out for the Royal and Ancient Spring Medal practice days". I had actually called in advance and spoken to the Links Trust about when to visit and they didn't mention this at all.

Consolation was that I was able to walk a bit of the TOC on Sunday night, up 17 and 18 and even on to the 18th green, not to mention rounds on the New and Jubilee, but I still feel sore at missing out on what I think is the ultimate golfing experience. :(

Won a 4 ball at the H4H at Mottram Hall in Sept - about 5 mins before I got the phone call tell me I'd won, I'd just finished sorting out a round out with my dad (my treat). Declined the event and asked them to pass on to the next person. Just as I hung up I suddenly thought "why on god's green earth didn't you just accept it and take a couple of others out as well".

Th'idiot.

Had the chance to play Doonbeg in March this year with the owner of the house we were all staying in. Unfortunately, the family had a day out to Galway planned that day so I turned it down. It ended up being a gloriously sunny (but bitterly cold) day.

I did play Lahinch the day after when the windchill meant the temp was -20. Not a good day to be playing blades.. I still have nightmares about that round...

Oh, and I did miss the opportunity to play Loch Lomond a few years ago when the guy who invited me was selfish enough to be involved in a car crash that put him in hospital for a month. We were supposed to be having a plane tour of the Trossachs that day as well... Ho hum..
