My Powerbilt Slugger makes a massive horrible CLANG noise. It was only £40 so i can't complain, but i fear the time has come to move on.

I've decided that i'm going to be looking for a new driver in the coming months but want one that sounds a bit more powerful or not so loud. Someone was hitting a G10 at the range the other day and i liked the sound that made.

What sound does your driver make and does it put you off, or endear the club to you?

No idea too busy watching the ball to think about the noise, but my friend last weekend was playing with a Cobra LD 08 and it sounded like a bin lid being hit with a shuvel.

Nike are too loud, and too hollow, Cobra too ear piercing, G10 is ok, Titleist 907s are ok but quite distinctive. Like MWJ above, I have a 907D1.

A mate has a Macgregor and that is horrendous. Even worse when he is in the indoor nets. Makes your ears bleed.

If you liked the G10, why not try one. They are a very good driver, and you won't go far wrong with one.

My MD actually makes a reasonable 'ping' when hit out the centre. The spare driver (Calloway F-5) sounds very loud but slightly dead, not a great noise.

Have tried Cobra's but could never use one full time, that noise is just awful.

Think it may be the new Orka drivers that have a coating to improve the sound when struck and think that is a reasonable idea. I think that the noise that a club makes is an underrated factor when buying

I may just do that. Our club's new pro is going to be getting Ping stuff in so i'll see him about trying a couple different shafts out. I've never managed to find a driver that i feel confident with. The slugger is straight enough, but i can't get any good length out of it with the aldila vs proto shaft on it... and that sound

I think the G10 sounded something like THHHHWUMP :)

my R7 limited makes a decent enough thwack....
as you say i do think the sound makes a big difference. i remember trying out a nike and mizuno and couldnt' stand the noise/attention of everyone in the range looking over!

I know what a thunderflash sounds like in a tin shed, so I guess it must be a bit like that.

I often think my driver sounds a bit broken, but it is not unpleasant.

It made an odd noise last Saturday I haven't heard before. Think I must have middled it and found the sweet spot.
