Well if you look at the junior teams England put out we doing very well , we have lots of young players coming through , so the future is not all bad

The PL should have at least 6 players on the field who can play for England and maybe the squad of 25 should have at least 15 who can play for England

Time to ensure the young players coming through get a chance to shine , times when teams played 11 european players should come to an end , something has to be done as we just training other countries players for them , what are your ideas on this national joke at every big competition ................EYF

Something needs to be done, but I think the main problem is the young players coming through aren't good enough, shouldn't they be good enough to keep the foreign players out of their club sides, time to realise we aren't that good anymore we haven't been any good since euro 96, we say the same thing every two years when we get knocked to of tournaments, and what do the FA come up with ? Let premier league teams put a reserve team in league one and play in the johnsons paint trophy. When the people who run our game haven't got a clue what they're doing we haven't got much hope have we, Sven got us to three 1/4 finals and we wanted him sacked ? Look where we are now, for me glen hoddle should be involved somewhere, knows more than anyone who's around now,

Until English players first allegiance/total dedication is to the national side, England will always be a 'second rate' team imo.

And as they are 'owned' by their clubs - who generally look on England 'duty' as a potential risk - that isn't going to happen!

Club loyalty definitely comes before National loyalty - for players as well as fans!

And, you believe this is the case only for England ...

And with you as Assistant, who'd bother watching the Football!

:D There is no chance he would let me be his assistant and anyway I can't work under someone with less knowledge and nor would I accept the role to work for that lot.:D

Besides he has no interest in his National team.

Allegedly...

Slash the wages in the EPL (football in general) would be a start. Way too many bog standard players getting paid 'superstar' wages, they believe their own hype from an early age and imo this stunts their progress; If they think they're already at the top then there is little desire to improve. Imo.

Rooney, £300K a week? Never in a million years!

The football celeb culture is pretty damaging also, a bit more time on the training ground and less time spent getting yer coupon in the magazines might help.

The authorities (not only English btw, I'd include the clowns up here as well) would do well to look at the entire German set up. Everything from pricing, travel (incl in ticket price I believe), youth development, training facilities and programmes, tv cash investment etc.
The whole set up may look good on telly and bring in the cash to pay ludicrous wages, but it has done nothing to develop the game. TV and the cash it brings is ruining the game, the money could (and should) have been used for the development of future talent etc. Instead, it's made a lot of ordinary players incredibly rich.

I'm also thinking a limit on foreign players may not be a bad idea and I've always been against that.

School teams and young team coaches did not what anyone who might put their foot on the ball.

they want the biggest, strongest types to stop people in defence and pacey players up front. ball retention is the last thing on their minds.

winning is the most important thing. not playing a nice brand of football. keeping shape and keeping a good back line is the things drilled into youngsters.

boot the ball ......... OUTTTTT !!!

under 12's playing in full size pitches and full size nets is silly. hit the ball high and the keeper cant get it. comedy football.

when you have the countries best players who are not comfortable in possession of the ball and unable to kick with their "other foot", you know you are in trouble.

Change the way lottery funding is used for the grassroots/junior game...

Apply for funding for 'consumables'... No chance :(...

Apply for funding to build a clubhouse [read bar]... More than happy :(:(....

You can put a plaque on a building but not balls or nets....

Just about sums up every management I've worked with... Same for most others I suspect ;)... Part and parcel of a working mans life....

Never a problem for me! They were/are paid to manage; I was paid (normally more than them) to do! The 2/3 stand-out ones saw their role as clearing the way so that the techies could actually achieve what was required!

Different when it's a similar role - like Manager/Assistant. I can see the Macbeth/Julius Caesar scenarios happening. H'mm! very much a Shakespeare day!

The game as I loved is dead!

When you have scousers cheering goals against England because one of there own scores the goal we may as well give up!

Sky, the premier league and foreign money has changed the game forever! Which is why I now play golf instead of following my team and England at football!

Spain - 28 Thousand qualified UEFA Coaches

Germany 25 thousand

Holland 19 thousand

UK - 2000

In Spain they are taught to look after the ball , they don't have goals in 6 a side games until the age of 12 , they are taught to play the game and their skills are enhanced , size is irrelevant to them

In the UK - that are taught to try and win and to score as soon as possible , the ignore smaller players and try and develop the bigger ones, they want to use pace and strength

England won nothing before the Prem and before foreign players arrived - when the English players are good enough then they will displaced the foreign players in their team - no other league has quotas and they have players that play for the club and country.

England and in fact UK need to look right at the gross roots and adjust the attitudes there to develop the youngsters before they reach clubs.

And the biggest problem will always be the FA - they are stuck in their own ways and refuse to acknowledge the problems

Perfect example of how Germany and Spain do it different

In the last U21 tournament - Spain picked 10 players who had already played for Spainsh main squad - the one before Germany did the same

England had available to them 12 players available who had played international football for the full squad - everyone of them pulled out so that they could play in some meaningless England tour ( FA arranged to gain money ) . The Germans etc use the U21 to build their future - England don't.

End of the day England don't have one true star that could turn a game for them - they aren't a good enough side

They knew this before the tournament and were have supposed to have reduced expectations !

In fairness this is happening. Coaching has been looked at and changed. there is now much more emphasis on keeping the ball, playing out from the back etc etc. Unfortunately as the previous 'England way' was so ingrained the oldest kids that are benefitting from the new ideas are still about 10 years old.

Yes my nephew just came back from a tournament where there were no winners or losers and they all got a medal.

Still nowhere near enough coaches

Going to take about 10-15 years for it to filter through

Still nowhere near enough coaches

Not a 'problem' that would be easy to address...

Here you are expected to be at your desk at soppy o'clock and still be there at late o'clock... Not a lot of time to take your badges as it's a very time consuming exercise... My brother, now he has retired, fancies giving it a go but at 58 is most probably considered as past it...

Start with the England fans and the English media - both are an absolute joke, and have no idea about proper support.

Everything is either immense or woeful in their eyes, with no inbetween. Then when things do go wrong, the scapegoats is default position one, closely followed by club rivalries.

No wonder Man u fans were singing "Argentina" and "you can stick your Ingerlund......." after Beckham, P Neville, Rooney and Ronaldo being lambasted after previous tournaments.

The English fans deserve their media, both of which are terrible. No wonder the players are scared to express themselves.
