After a disappointing round on the weekend, I was just wondering what sort of mindset people go into their week/weekend games?

I was really up for my weekend match after a good round last weekend. I felt like my ball striking was as good as its ever been, and if it wasn't for a couple of bad shot choices my score last week would have been very good. So, onto saturday, feeling very confident, looking forward to a good round. Now conditions weren't great (really windy) but i didn't let that dampen my spirits. Needless to say I teed off and was 6 over after 3!!!! And it just got worse!

Was it over confidence? I feel if i go into a match with no expectations i play better. Just wondering if any of you guys have the same experience??

I don't think it is over confidence , i think its just the pressure you put on your self to do well.
I had a similar experience this week end; i don't know if you read my post about scoring 41 points and getting cut last week and i was looking forward to this weeks stable ford, well as your self i went in to it feeliong very confident with exactly the same thoughts as your self and i came off with 28 points. So Keef (i think it was you) you were quite correct in your prediction as to what i would end up doing lol.
I don't know what the answer is though, i think that is the Holy Grail!

I played yesterday full of high hopes and expectations because the last time I played that particular track I had a great round.
Teed off yesterday into a strong wind, didn't start too badly but three blobs on the front 9 (two down to my own stupidity) soon put paid to any aspirations I had of a good score. Finished on my worst points total for a good few weeks, and despite loving the course and being in good company, couldn't wait to walk off the 18th. My head went down totally after about 15 holes and I played the last three like an absolute knob.
I hate playing in the wind!!
:( :( :(

I am quite good at resetting myself for the next hole but it took me til the back 9 to get anywhere near my normal game. I was struggling on judging the swirly wind! I was 6 over after 3 which is all my shots gone!! I mean, first was wind behind, I had a second shot into the green of about 170 yards, thought to myself, should be an 8 iron (downhill) but I'll take a 9 instead hoping to come up short and roll on. Well i flew the green into the cabbage at the back!!!! Frustrating!

It depends. A friendly roll up I'll go out and see what happens and won't beat myself up if I hack (although I'll probably go to the range in the afternoon). In a competition and if I've put the work in on the range I'll be going out with a positive attitude that I can get cut (I go out thinking I can win but will readjust my goals as the round unfolds). I do get pretty frustrated when I play badly especially if I've been hitting well in practice.

To play to the best of my ability, to give 100% to each shot, irrespective of how the game is going, and most importantly to win the cup of coffee from my brother, if he is playing with me.

Something like this........

Get no more than a couple of hours uninterupted sleep. Wake up early enough to have a shower, get bottle for baby, 2 year old and tea for the wife. Have breakfast. Get 2 year old up, changed, clothed and breakfasted. Clean up 2 year olds mess. Now running late. Wife wants to know what time I'll be home. Desperately trying not to forget battery or shoes. Arrive at the club, later than I would like, ie no practice time. Grab a coffee. Take a look around to see what societies or known slow players are round. Notice that they're all teeing off before us. Have a bad first hole. Takes 30 minutes plus to go through 2 holes. I know Mrs will be upset with me. And so it goes on.

Sort that out then Bob Rotella!
