Just a quick post askin you all what you'd expect from someone who is serving on your club's committee?

Should be some interesting views.

Someone who applies for the position to advance the club and not to advance his or her standing within it.

Someone who is willing to provide the time and commitment that the position needs and not disappear once appointed.

Someone who can appreciate that the interests of the club are often different from those of the individual and the position is to look after the interests of the club.

Ahh, yes, GB72 has said it all. Wonderful if this bloke existed.

But what you get is someone looking to make a big statement, and build some monumental folly that he can point to for the rest of his golfing life saying 'when I was on the committee, we did that'.

Some one who is approachable for new members and old members.
They need to know the game well. Have a good manor, be a good role model.

someone who is willing to voice the opinions of all members, and willing to get to know as many members as possible so that a wide range of views are incorporated into any meetings. Also someone willing to put in a lot of work, if its neccesary, in order to better the club.

I think the perfect council member needs to be level headed above all else, even the club itself. The reason I say this is that while all others are getting carried away with debates etc, every council needs at least one man anchored to reality....and a healthy alcohol balance, either too much or too little influences social decisions for the club also.

I concur with all the statements above but which committee are you looking to serve on. Is it house (running the affairs of the club) green (making sure the course is always at its best) or something a bit different like the social committee

They should have a pretty good idea about the rules since they're expected to settle disputes from time to time. I've seen some council members make some pretty basic mistakes, which doesn't fill you with confidence!

Some very interesting thoughts there. You all hit on a few points that I was thinking. The one where the guy should be asked and not seeking was a very good point.

We have our AGM tomorrow night and I along with 6 other's are up for re'election. There are 8 places and 13 standing.

I'm not really worried if I don't get back on as I have the Junior's to look after this year.
I will wish the guy's who do get on the best of luck and hope they do a good job
