As I try and get my handicap down, my ball striking has improved loads. But i just seem to have a shot or run of shots / holes where it all goes to pot. How does everyone feel they became more consistent??

are you making the right choices on these blow up holes?
Been getting better at making the right choices and picking the percentages shot. Interestingly at our second par 5 it is just possible to get home in 2, but one oif my mates has said he will take all my clubs away from me and only leave me an 8 iron of I am going well lol

Are they the same holes? You mention a reachable Par 5. We have two I can reach with my Sunday best 4 wood but it just isn't the percentage shot on either. So I punch an easy 5i into position to leave a wedge approach - gets me a par at least and decent chance of a birdie. I've played the holes in practice and tried different options so know 100% going for it just isn't worth it. That way I don't get tempted in the heat of competition - unless matchplay and giving 31 shots where I have to just to half the hole!

What Lump says. If you hit a bad shot, don't make it worse by trying to hit a miracle recovery that has almost zero chance of success.

This all day long. My course is tree lined on most holes and i was always tempted to play the miraculous, but riskier, recovery shot, not any more, now it's the one that gets me back into play every time.

Shorten , and if you can, simplify swing.

Learn how to correctly grip a club and stick with it

Don't constantly change golf equipment including ball.

Practice / play as much as you can.

You are never going to be consistent during every round no matter how good you get. You can limit damage by thinking better and putting bad shots/holes behind you but even then you will have bad holes and there is nothing you can do about it.

All you can do is practice and play as much as you can.

Play, and if you have to practice, work on putting and short game. Don't compound one bad hole with another at the next. If you can, aim to bounce back at the next with a par or birdie. Keep going it can get better

Learn from your mistakes, nothing worse than watching someone repeat the same errors week after week.

Remember the good shots and forget the bad ones! Once you've worked out how to do this, let me know!

For me it helps to not think about too much whilst playing my shots. Difficult I know when you're trying to make sure you don't shank/fat/thin your ball into the shiester!

Don't attempt hero shots as they will do far more damage than good, take the easy route to the fairway and don't let one dropped shot become two or three.

I should know this by now but still play ridiculous shots, for example, today on our third hole I'd pushed my drive right and found it in the rough, on a bank with the ball below my feet, a tree in my line to the hole and 220 yards out.

My selected shot was to try and fade my hybrid round the tree to the green, I don't normally hit my hybrid 210 yards let alone 220 from said lie. I topped it 5 yards.
