I've sold a few things recently and am thinking about maybe trying out a 10.5 or 11 degree driver. (No panic Golfmmad, you cheque is safe until you get it!)
I went on golfbidder and had a look at a few things and being a middle-aged grumpy wondered what all the RRP £329, you save £216 is all about?
If I wanted to buy a second hand car, would I go on the used/approved site, look at a car and see RRP £25,000, you save £15,001....I don't think so.
Hardly a rant....but do they think this is clever?
:o

Marketing ploy which probably does work for getting trade but I agree, pretty annoying. They use the RRP to inflate the used prices (there are no bargains from this lot!) and try to convince punters they've somehow saved money, conveniently forgetting to remind you that as you're buying used clubs the RRP from 4 or 4 or 5 years ago is completely irrelevant.

Used to visit them until a couple of years ago but no more, their prices are too high. :(

I agree. Maybe rather than being so deeply patronising, why not write something like "current used values £110-160" so if they are selling it for £139 it looks good value.
I've never seen this RRP "ploy" used on second hand goods before. I've nothing against them, but how condescending?

It isn't a great tactic. I am fortunate enough to still live close enough to go to their New Malden office and deal directly with them which means I can haggle in person and have always mansged to get a reasonable price for the kit I'm offloading. However if you have to deal with them in the usual way by sending the stuff in I'm afraid they aren't great for offering a competitive price.

I don't know how long they have been in operation, and in particular at their current location but I wish I'd known when I was still young and living there. It would have been an ideal job for me!

Bearing in mind that a lot of the gear they sell is practically new it makes sense to show how much you could save on the RRP.

THis example just plucked at random from Golfbidder. R9 TP - condition 8 all round(means virtually new)

Against the Brand New product from Snainton

That, to me, is a good marketing ploy. "here's this almost new driver - buy from us and save plenty on the new price"

Granted, as the clubs get older the RRP becomes less significant but for newish stock I can see why they do it.

You have a point. New stuff....yes, Old stuff, not so sure.
I hadn't thought about it this way.

I have to say that anytime that I have used them I've been more than impressed.

The stuff is usually better than described and service is good. Only ever bought a couple of things however they have been good.

Their previous location was in the parade of shops in Worple Road, SW20, roundabout No 310/312/314. I bought my s/h Yonex there about 14/15 years ago. What was (?is) ideal was that you could borrow the clubs that interested you and go and try them out at World of Golf about 3 - 5 mins drive away.
