What is holding you back?

Nothing.

My game is what it is. There are elements of my game that could be better but if I was desperate to change anything in my game I'd need to go and practice it. I'd rather spend my time doing something else.

Consistency is a big thing for me at the moment. For example, when I last played a full round I left me driver and 3 wood at home because I wasn't getting on with them, made 4 pars on the front and scored 46, but game just fell apart on the back 9 and I only made 1 par and scored 53. 99 with 5 pars.

Interesting reading the variety of different reasons people have given for not making that next jump in handicap.

Lack of practice time is by far the most common given which makes perfect sense and is entirely reasonable. It is difficult with work, families, and other hobbies/interests to find enough time to practice.

If you really want to make that next step and shave a few strokes off the handicap and feel practice time is the problem then try this.

Sit down for half an hour with a weekly calendar with the days divided into half hour time slots. Grey out 6-7 hours for sleeping (any more is bad for your health) Fill in all of the rest of the times for work, family time, meals, chores, etc., etc. I can reasonably assume you have at least an hour maybe a bit more 4-5 days per week that is actually free time. Time you might waste watching tv or internet shopping, or something else.

Now if you are happy with your game and just want to play when you fancy and have fun when you do, then great, just don't berate yourself or become angry and frustrated at your game.

If however you really want to make the next step and take a big cut in your handicap and significantly improve your golf game then you will find that 4-5 hours a week (one hour per day) to work on your game. You may have to get creative in how and where you practice. You will also have to be very focused and specific on what you are doing while practicing or you may as well be watching TOWIE, or Chelsea, or those scum bag Geordies.

If you do want to find this time and commit to improving feel free to send me a PM and I will be happy to give you a couple of tips and tricks to get the most of what little time you have available to improve.
