The beauty of this game of ours is that it is never mastered.

No matter how good you get you can always get better, so the question is...What one thing do you need to fix to make that jump to the next level?

And more importantly what are you doing about it?

Confidence is my main issue, Have struggled with it all year, Not committing to the shots because I my no faith in my ability. This mainly happens on away courses though!

So today I have been given a number of books to read.

Golf is not a game of perfect by Rotella
Enter the zone by pates, Robertson and gardener
Mental Ketchup by Edwards
Mental toughness for golf by Hemmings Mantle and some bloke call Ellwood?

I will read these and then blame something else!

What one thing do you need to fix to make that jump to the next level? PRACTICE

And more importantly what are you doing about it? NOTHING (looks cold outside)

Playing more would be good, just once a week now the sun has gone :(

So what you really need to do is move to Florida in order to improve.

Lots of practice I suspect but other aspects of my life keep getting in the way - you know things like work!

I'm going to aim to be more accepting of my level of golf as a product of my ability and my practice rather than expecting a low handicap for little practice. ;)

I just can't get out and play enough

2 year old plus the great British weather (and my current lack of anything remotely waterproof) means I just can't get out as much as I'd want to to try and improve

As with most on here I would say time to practice properly is my biggest issue.

I have weaknesses in all areas of my game, but none which stand out more than others. Likewise, I'm alright in a most areas of my game, with none standing out as spectacular.

In my recent self-absorbed whinges in my head I've been thinking that if stuff doesn't perk up down here in the next few months, I may move back up t'north to be closer to family. Get an evening job in a bar / supermarket, and treat golf as a full-time job, practising / playing 5 days a week from 9-5. I genuinely think that if I did that for a couple of years I could get into low single figures - providing I took it seriously. Just a pipe dream, but one that I'd quite like to do, before I get too old and responsible (with a mortgage etc) that it's no longer an option.

Lack of a proper practice area or range ,, we have both , just not "realistic" enough if ya know what i mean .. the facilities at Kings Acre when we were up there were fantastic .. id settle for a well maintained 100/80 yard chipping area tho ..

What am i doing bout it ? nothing close to me so very little i can do . practice on the course in the bright evenings , but that is frowned upon by some aswell

Your missing the main one you refer to is a problem, Golf is a Game of Confidence 1 & 2 by Bob Rotella, just listened to it this morning, going to put it into practice, when its not raining of course :smirk:

I suspect - Lack of Practice.

Doubtless there will be a point where it is Lack of Talent - but hopefully a way to go before I get there. Going through a series of lessons with the pro - trying to keep a couple of weeks between them to try to start getting engrained one change before moving onto the next. Lots of range (covered) time scheduled all focused on "releasing the club"...

Putting, putting, putting!

Those I played with on Sunday will definitely agree with this - probably had 5(ish) doable birdie chances and missed a good few par putts on top of this. Even topped a par putt from 4" and missed a 1 footer for par too but those two were down to sheer complacency and laziness. Regardless, my putting is definitely costing me.

The putter is the one club I've never bothered with in terms of expense but as I've purchased everything I'd plonked on my Christmas list now wish to address what will hopefully be the last piece of the jigsaw....

I was thinking about this the other day and came to the conclusion that my putting and short game aren't good enough. I always thought I was a good putter but I'm not good enough. I have improved my short game immensely this year but that too isn't good enough.
