What is Going on With the 4 American Swimmers

Cannot deny finding this story very intriguing. 4 US swimmers claim to have been robbed at gunpoint on the way back from a party by thieves dressed as police. This was denied by the Brazilian authorities at the time.

Now footage from the security gate at the Olympic village has emerged showing them all laughing and joking, apparently with all of their belongings intact and the time stamp is several hours after they claimed they got back in their police statements.

One of them has got back to the US but the others have been stopped from leaving the country whilst further questions are asked as making false statements about a crime carries up to 3 years in prison.

Following this with some interest as it does not smell right but, then again, why make it up unless what they were actually up to would be severely damaging to their careers/sponsorship etc.

Obviously, everything total speculation at the moment but intriguing none the less.

In caught a snippet of it on the news when they were talking about the Brit who was robbed at gun point

It all sounds very bizarre and not sure why they would make up something like this - unless as you say they are covering something up or have a case of the Allenbys
 
Reports from Brazil now saying they've admitting to making it up!
 
Looks like one of the team damaged a door in a petrol station loo and invented the robbery story to cover it up.

Oh Dear, someone is going to have to carry the can for that
 
Been caught with there speedos down.

and if they are found guilty I would be tempted to strip them of there medals.
 
The local brew is quite strong... Many a time I spent peeling my team mates off the floor out there. They also forget it's pretty dangerous as well. It was never a place where I would get myself into a state. Looks like they let off some steam and got out of control, the local agencies do not waste time. I have seen security out there sort stuff out and it is brutal.
