So I decided that lessons were the only way i could reduce my handicap further. Last week i bought a set of 6 lessons with my pro, and had my first one on Monday.

He said that he wanted me to get in a more "ready" position to hit the golf ball rather than my "relaxed" position i am in currently.

This included getting lower down on the shot by bending the knees a bit more and standing further away from the golf ball.

When playing today, I didnt hit one iron shot clean. Fat shot after fat after fat. I was even hitting the floor first with my driver and 3 wood off the tee.

It takes tme for the changes to bed in.

When I started lessons last year, I struggled to hit a ball for 6 weeks.

It'll come. Give it time. Just work on what your pro suggests and you'll be fine.

That sounds like a fair bit of a change, have you put much time in at the range to adjust for it? I would imagine that it would take hitting a fair few balls to get used to it, and that today was the result of a mix of the old swing trying to accomodate the changes you've made on monday

Pros say it takes them 2000 balls to start to feel something is natural.

yeah happens to most people after a lesson. As has been said have you put much time in on the range?? After a lesson i always head to the range for a week instead of playing just to get the changes feeling natural.

I understand that it takes time but it just doesn't feel right. Getting lower on the ball surely means you need to have the clubs shortened, but mine are already shortened. Especially with the longer clubs such as driver, 3 wood and 4/5 iron. Getting lower on the ball with these clubs means i already know that i am going to take a massive chunk out the ground, just like i did today.

Obviously not, but it just seems logical that if your body gets closer to the ball, the club needs to be shorter?

if you stand further away and bend the knees a little more you will swing on a slightly flatter plane but be the same distance from the ball - that's logical!

No. You've been asked to stand further away to compensate. The only real thing that you may do is adjust the lie of the clubs to suit, but the pro should advise on that.

I always go to the range for at least two sessions after a lesson and work specifically on the drills I've been shown. I think the OP has simply gone on the course too quickly and not given the changes a chance to bed in. It will take time and you have to trust the professional and the advice he is giving. If you work on the drills and still don't see any progress go back to him. It is a two way street

I'm already 4 degree flat

I'm in guessing territory now as we don't have full picture, but standing further away may lift the hands, meaning you may have to be more lie upright. It depends on what he's done with the rest of your address.

If you are not happy, discuss it with the pro. Good tip is for him to video a good swing of you that is correct, so that you have point of reference for future practice.

Your Pro's suggestion seems reasonable.

Your balance seems quite forward - on your toes. And you are gripping down quite a bit too.

Was that (the stance) his only suggestion?

How was your grip?

It's pretty normal for the first time on the course after a lesson to be a bit more 'miss' than 'hit'! Technical thoughts get in the way of a flowing swing.

Check with the pro if it persists!

looks pretty good to me, nice posture, arms hanging, I dont see you on your toes looks fine to me, gripping down also isnt an issue the ball just wont go as far with that club, downswing looks good too:thup:

only slight critique would be your shoulders and hips look to be aiming left which might give you fades or pulls......

all in all you have the makings of a very good swing, that h/cap should tumble:cool:

Hi, yep you are right. This video was taken last year, and have now corrected my alignment with shoulders.
