Played with a guy on Saturday in a Bogey Comp. He finished at +3 and should have lost 0.4. However on 1 hole he had a 3 on a par 3 which was a +.

When he entered his score in the Computer he entered 5 rather than a 3 which meant a - and the Computer recorded a final score of +1.

What should happen now? Is it too late for him to have the o.4 reduction?

I assume you also return a signed scorecard. I am not 100% sure but I would have thought that it is the card that is official and not the computer. Would be interested to know the outcome.

I think it is up to the match and handicap to correct it when he goes through the cards to check them agianst what's on the computer.
As far as I know you cant be DQ'd for entering scores on a computer wrongly, as long as your signed card is correct you should be ok.
He should get the 0.4 off. If he doesn't you need to tell the match and handicap sec, preferably on the day before he publishes all the scores.

If I was you, I'd make a call to the comps sec to notify him of the error as soon as possible.

I'd agree as above that the card and pencil is the gospil on this type of thing.

No it was not me. I was -1.
He was nowhere near winning as the best score was +9. Expect The Handicap Secretary never looked at his card.

He is now playing off a false handicap and I am sure ,as you say, if he contacts the club it will be sorted out.

Trouble is if you're late reporting it the comp gets closed and everyones handicaps get adjusted as needs be but an error like your pals could result in a different CSS although unlikely, but it could. If that happens you could affect a lot of other peoples playing handicaps who could have gone on and played other matches before the correction is made. You need to act speedily with this type of thing although ultimatley its the Match and Handicaps fault.

Surely this is similar to the other post on here about incorrect scores that ought not lead to DQ.
If he filled it in on the computer, he must have known something was up? Even if not, under these circumstances the only mistake he has made is entering his score wrong on the PC, therefore, his score should stand and his h'cap too.

If I entered my card - correctly filled and signed (into the box) and discovered I'd made a mistake using the PC, and would have been due a cut, I'd ask for it. Actually I'd demand it. I'm not aware that being unable to successfully enter numbers into a computer can stop you getting your place in the comp and h'cap adjustments.

He should take it up with the secretary. Pretty safe ground if you ask me this one.
