looking into getting anew gps watch and im wondering what youre all using and how pleased you are with it. have any of you got a Garmin vívoactive yet? I was also looking at the tom tom and golf buddy.
any info appreciated cheers G

When looking in to these before I bought my gps the Golfbuddy WT5 was the one that came out top for me and GM agree in the latest issue

Maybe I unlucky but the SC Linx does not get a thumbs up from me at the moment, 1st replaced after 6 weeks, 2nd one going back because battery won't hold its charge. However the watch itself with a membership is very good, I just think the quality needs to be improved

never understood the need for any distance device, all clubs i have played have distance markers 150,100,50,yards so very easy to gauge distance, and what if you have an odd yardage does it not put doubt in your mind when choosing then hitting your shot. I once played with a guy who hadnt been playing long who to be honest didn't have a clue, kept pulling his gizmo out on practically every shot,he seemed to hit same club irrespective of distance,i asked if he knew how far he hit each club in his bag,he said no,but hit his 7 iron till close enough to chip or putt,i just shoock my head and walked on.

I don't disagree:o

In the last 2 years I've broken a laser and a gps, also lost a laser and a gps watch.

I'm now playing without and notice no difference. They're a crutch most golfers don't need

I've got a Garmin but it has a mind of its own. When it works its great, automatically putting me on the next tee after putting out. This morning it was all over the place, said I was on a hole on the other side of the course. Thought 850 yards seemed long for a par 3.

Try playing from three fairways away like me and you'll soon struggle with clubbing and distance.

I have a Snooper Shotsaver SG255X GPS watch. A mouth full to say but it works for me. Recommended.

I have the Tom Tom and I really like it - comfortable to wear and really simple to update as you can pair with your phone, keep your score and then transfers to your phone for reviewing or showing off later, only down side is its not great with hazards and is a little bit vague but I still really like it

I bought the TomTom about a month ago. Really great, especially for someone who plays a variety of courses like myself.

Simple to use, and the hazard function is really helpful when choosing clubs off the tee. If only my driver was as helpful!

So far I'm loving my Garmin S2. Normal front, middle and back plus has dog leg distance and distance to 200, 150 and 100 yards. So far so good. £111 from Amazon, other retailers are available.

I was wanting a watch for ages but my misuses wouldn't let me have one. Seeing as I had quite a bit of winning in the pro shop I walked in one day and saw he was selling a Nikon laser for 230. He came down to the price at American golf of 190 and brought it. I have to say if I had a choice now I wouldn't get a watch and glad I went with a laser. As it showed at a course I played a few months ago playing the 11th gone past the 100 yard marker counted I had about 85 left to the green SW I'm thinking. Laser it up and it's reading 115 to the flag and the flag is just on the front with two bunkers guarding the front of the green hit PW about 125 to the back of the green thank god I didn't hit the SW I would have been well short going by the course markers. As a watch only tells you front middle or back you never know exactly where the flag is especially if you can't see the green. All down to choice though.

Whatever you choose just make sure your main course and those that you play regular are not having any major changes done!

As an example, Leamington County near me has just completed phase 1 of a complete reshuffle, the 1st has a newly positioned green and the hole is now 100yds shorter, the 2nd is now a compete new hole and is a par 3 whereas it was a par 4 before and the 3rd is the old 2nd hole but with distance changes also!

Those changes became live yesterday and because I walked and mapped it for SkyCaddie prior whilst the work was being carried out, all members can update their GPS's and now have the correct details immediately, hence to say, no other brand of GPS can and will be pretty useless for those initial 3 holes and with another 2 substantial phases to complete changing many other holes and hazards, well, any GPS other than a SkyCaddie might as well stay in the car or locker when playing Leamington until.........well I don't know when, and nor will they!

Oh and no, you don't need a subscription to be up to date with basic information for front, back & middle, correct order of play and being on the actual hole your playing!

And then along came Robin
