I played with 3 mates yesterday afternoon at Nairn Dunbar golf Club, in what you would only describe as a howling gale. My mate who works offshore has just joined there and it was a chance for the 4 of us to catch up as the last time we played together was in a Texas Scramble at Nairn Dunbar Last summer (which we won)

We had coffee in the clubhouse and two of the guys where not that keen as all you could see was huge dust clouds being blown around and the flags bending over sideways. Matters were not helped as we watched 4 groups go out play the first two holes then head back in.

So off we went all drive off and one of the guys drove the first green measured on gps and backed up by laser, 397 yards!

2nd hole into the wind only 300 yards, I hit driver and 4 iron…. This is going to be fun.

3rd down breeze again 180 yards was a flick with a pw and the others were all though the green with the same club.

Many long drives and flicks down wind and plenty of drivers and 3 wood 2nd shots later we walked off the 18th covered in dust, but with smiles on our faces.

One of the most fun days I’ve had on a golf course, it helped my partner and I won 3/2.

No shots either, as I’m the highest handicap out of the 4 of us by 4 shots anyway, but still managed to win 4 holes myself.

Great company, ok golf, great banter, but most of all great fun

Know what you mean chap, played in the Mail on Sunday classic Sunday in crazy winds, we had a great battle finishing in what we both agreed was the fairest result - a draw. Chap was good company, friendly and competitive, and the high winds meant many shots carried high tariffs. I struggled on the front 9 but scrambled well to keep the gap close-ish, then got into my stride on the back playing the inward half in level par gross (until I messed up 18!). I walked off with the only (half!) point secured by our club thinking "yeah, that's why I'm out here". For a while on the back 9 I felt invincible, clawing this guy back for the club, then a great lesson learned on 18 that you can get too big for your boots, man I love this game.

this is what golf is all about! what a man

Played at Craigielaw a few weeks back in howling wind and snow, but it was great fun. 2nd is a par 5, and I hit a good drive, a good 3w and then a great 3w from 160 yards to the middle of the green. 4th is another par 5 but in the opposite direction. I hit driver - 5 iron pin high.

Mental conditions but absolutely exhilarating.

Played Dunaverty a few years back standing on the 10th tee called Mount Zion, 123 yards up hill. Nailed a 3 wood onto the back quarter of the green.

The next hole 266 yards I put a 6 iron through the green on the toss. Mental wind, but as dear old Paddy says immense fun.

I played last night as well, brutal conditions, rubbish score.

Approach shot at the 15th I flushed an 8 iron a full 90 yards onto the front of the green. 17th hole, same club, not as sweet a strike.... 150 yards.

Sort of fun, I guess, mistake was signing in for the comp (0.1 back) which made it quite annoying. Needed to try lots of different types of shot, plenty of guesswork on club selection etc etc.

But your on here talking about it so somewhere in there you enjoyed the experience - or was it just better than Emmerdale?

Couldn't get a game yesterday at my place as the Tay Road Bridge was shut ,kind of says how strong the wind was here yesterday.

Only last week we were saying how dry it was and we needed rain, well its came alright and as usual its forgotten how to go off!!!

Brutal but fun.

on the 7th at Dunbar, 397 i was pin high with my drive, but the ball must have run at least 100 yards.
I pitched on oto the green, only for the wind to blow the ball all the way back and past me onto the 8th tee, the other 3 fell about laughing, even i had to smile.

Meeting up with three mates tomorrow for a knock around Newbury and Crookham. We have known each other as a group for 25yrs from the days we all worked in the same department at work - and found we had the same interests - one being golf.

After a long period during which having families and life took over and we moved away from each other, we got back together about 3 yrs ago for a round of golf. And so it has continued since about twice a year as a group. The course is somewhat incidental - what is important is us getting together, sharing a laugh and catching up. Really looking forward to it - indeed - that is what golf is all about.

It's rubbish when you have to explain your own jokes.......

Golf is much more basic... it’s the evolution of the hunter/gatherer gene that we have inside us (or does it just seem that way sometimes ;) )

First this morning is a par 5 with the wind. 493 yards downhill. Drove it and 4 putted.

Second is a par 3 119 yards into the wind. 7 iron straight up in the air 45 yards forward and looped back and struck me right in the face. Suing myself for not shouting fore but holed my second using my putter straight along the deck 119 yards.

Third hole par 4 with the wind. Ended upon the 4th green 360 yards past the flag. Took me 11 shots against the wind to get back and 3 putted.

4th hole 380 yards with the wind. Nudged it from the tee with my foot and the wind took it to 6 inches from the flag. 3 putted.

5th hole 267 against the wind. Ball blew out of my hand all the way back to the clubhouse over a mile away.

honestly man, what a farce !!!!!
