Evening all, 11 (possibly 12) of us will be heading out to Spain this year for our annual golfing get away. I've been entrusted, or rather tasked with the role of sorting out the formats for each game. We're playing 6 rounds total. I want to change it up a little this year. We all throw a few euros in for each game. €10/game/player so will have €110 in the pot each day. It's nice to have an overall individual winner for the week so some money will be set aside for this along with a runner up.
Theres the usual Ryder cup style team format but that's been done to death.
Im looking for some good ideas for more unusual ways to dish the money out. Again secret pairs etc can only work with even numbers.
So im calling on the wealth of experience that lies within the forum and looking forward to learning some new scoring formats for the away trip.

Much appreciated.

Mark

A dozen of us go on a wee trip every year and we usually have;

1,2,3 each day, handicaps adj each day
a team prize each day.
overall winner, 2nd and 3rd
and a prize for last

we all put money in each day.

A group of 8 on our annual bash for 4 rounds usually do the following using Stableford,

Draw on the first day for groups of 4 ball.

10E each per day with prizes as follows (for 8);

Nearest pin x 4 = 5E each NP
3rd = 10E
2nd = 20E
Winner = 30E

Draw at the end of each game for the next day. Simple but effective for us. Nothing for overall winner except for bragging rights.

Cheers, Fade

We used to have a prize for last in an annual charity comp we used to play. It was a bog seat and the 'winner' had to wear it round his neck for the rest of the day/evening.

We play blind pairs most Sundays, if there is an odd number we simply re-draw one player.

If you have odd numbers and can play in 3's, you could do American Stableford. 6 Points available for each hole, if you win and the other two blob, then you get 6, if you win and one other blobs, it's 4 and 2. If two of you halve it's 3 each, if all 3 of you halve it's 2 points each. You can be miles behind and with a couple of good holes catch up. Over a few days you could do cumulative scores. I reckon that would be great fun.

I thought the team format we played at Cooden last year was good, we played in teams of 3s, and the format was one stable ford score on the 1st 6 holes, 2 stableford scores on holes 7 - 12, all 3 stableford scores on holes 13 -18.

No reasons you couldn't something similar if you what teams of 2 or 4s.

Team nearest the pin in 2 shots(on short par 4)

I organise a group of 12-16 guys for trips away. We go away twice a year.

The spring break we usually play 2-3 rounds and do a pairs better ball stableford comp. Plus the usual nearest pin, long drive, day winner etc.

The autumn trip we do a Ryder cup tournament and an individual trophy for best stableford.

Keep it quite simple, but we never play more than 3 rounds.

I arrange two trips a year normally for between 20-30 people.

We have 2 rounds and for each round each player puts in a tenner £3-4 goes in each days fund and the balance goes into the weekend overal which is normally topped up from the saving of any 3 spaces for the booking.

Each day:
Nearest pins
Combined par 3's
Combined par 5's
1 x Nearest pin in 2 ( on a tricky par 4)
1 x nearest pin In 3 (on the tougher par 5)
Front 9 best score
Back 9 best score and overal.

Then for the overal weekend prize:

First second and third with also best roomies score.
