hi
i dont know what driver to get, i have been playing around 5 months , handicap 22 and usually drive around 200yds , but i want an upgrade on my driver , which came in a starter set of clubs , i have quite a bad slice , could any one give me any advice as to what drivers are good, i was looking at . TAYLORMADE R9 460 , TAYLORMADE TOUR BURNER , KING COBRA S9-1 AND THE PING G10

Hey there Slicedagain, how about a wee introduction to tell us a bit about yourself and where your're playing these days.

As to your Op, can't comment on any of these models, whay these ones in particular ?

You'll find a wealth of comment and experience available here if you stick around and get involved. ;)

I would get along to your pro shop and try out some different models, shafts and lofts - better still have a custom fitting session.

If you slice, more loft will help as you will be hitting the ball with a bitmore backspin, which negates the sidespin which causes a slice.

There are a lot of good drivers on the market, some very good ones for under £100, such as the MD Superstrong or the Ben Sayers Benny.

Hi slicedagain, If you suffer a bad slice I would stay away from all of those models as they may make it worse. If I were you I would get some lessons from a pro until you can hit the ball straighter. The length of a driver makes it harder to keep online.Spending £30.00 on a couple of lessons should help the driving no end, much better than wasting hundreds on a fancy driver and making matters worse in the short term.

Not sure if its any help but I had previously been using the Taylor Made Burner and after a love/hate relationship changed to a Ping G10 and the improvement has been great (finding the fairway now). I put this down to a more suitable shaft in the G10 so as a result would recommend getting along to the Pro for a custom fit or at least try a few different options on a range to see what suits you best.

Hi slicedagain.

I reckon you should go and buy a nice friendly driver with not too long a shaft and not too low loft....anything 11-13 degrees with a standard 45" would be ok.

To be honest, the thought of you wasting your money on a £300 driver at your stage just makes me want to cry.

I have had plenty of drivers over the years and never spent more than £130.

I can recommend the Ben Sayers benny, the Wilson Spine and maybe even a G10 (they're £130 new round here).

Sorry to say it, but if I see anymore guys who can't even regularly play to 90 brandishing R9s, I'm just going to self-destruct.
A club like the R9 offers some interesting gadgetry to the good player (better than me, of course) but pick up a G10 for £130 and spend the rest on lessons or visiting a few nice courses.

Go and try the Spine driver for £99....I wouldn't swap mine for an R9, basically, a square driver is going to help your game more than a proper players driver.

There are two absolute hackers at my club who both use Nike square drivers and hit their drives surprisingly well. If you can't hit one of these well anything else is madness.

I think if you are going to get a driver then look for sometinh with 11-13 degrees to give youself a bit of forgiveness. Other than that I guess you need to try them out and see what suits. If you slice a draw bias may help alieviate some of the problems but to be honest its just masking a swing fault. You might be better getting some lessons first and stopping the slice and asking your pro what he recommends

I use a Ping G10 and can't recommend it enough, although have had it shortened recently. What a change, more fairways, better striking and haven't noticed any loss in distance. I have probably gained distance overall as I am hitting a few more fairways.

I would recommend the same of the others, take lessons and then start to worry about a better driver.

Nice course you play sliced again

Why dont have have a proper try at the new Nevada bobs down the road as anyone one of those clubs could help you
