... if he wins tomorrow?

I say he has to turn pro, because he will have qualified for numerous events for years to come, and both Tours will give him a Tour card. Would be sponsors will be offering their best contracts right then.

Nothing more to accomplish in the amateur game if you win The Open Championship.

Agreed
Unless he's saving himself for the Walker Cup or other top Amateur event.

Bet he wishes he turned Pro last week.....

Apparently he missed the knockout stages at his last am event. Is he not at Alabama state?
If he wins I think he will go pro as he gets 5 year exemption I think on tour and like has been said sponsors will be scrambling for him. Hopefully if he wins he will stay grounded and go on to a great career, likewise if he doesn't.

What is the main factors that makes an amateur turn pro.

the reason I say this is because the comment that Speith who is on for the grand slam is younger than paul Dunne left me gobsmacked for about 10 secs.

Would have to agree with the OP.

Rose pretty much did the same and despite a torrid time immediately afterwards just look at him since his 'nightmare' start.

Dunne be should give it a go and best of luck to him.

By that argument there's not a whole lot more to the pro scene either ☺

Either way I suspect he would choose to play Walker Cup initially, then turn pro and get down to business.

I met him at the Palmer Cup last year and he was a very balanced guy - as all of them were, mind.

Graduates this year, so there's only the Walker Cup that's stopping him turning Pro. He's not actually ranked as high (in WAGR) as a couple of the other amateurs that are in the field, but it's timing the performance that counts! Great to see he's likely to be out with Oosthuizen in the last round - I'm sure he'll keep him settled while competing against him!

He could use Andy Sullivan (or even Justin Rose?) as a model for what could be in store (and what is required to make it happen) in the next couple of years stepping up to the big time!

Can he decide that if he wins he can turn pro and take the prize money or is it just a case of the events he now gets into being the carrot?

He started/entered as an Amateur so he ends as an amateur. You can't change once it begins. This was confirmed on the radio today.

Speith only did a year and a half at college before quitting. He was the number 1 ranked amateur and had finished in the top 25 in the US Open so was probably pretty confident of making a decent life as a pro. Whilst Paul Dunne has been succesful, he might have, like so many others, put some value in finishing his education before cracking on with his pro career.

Probably a daft question and may have been asked in a previous post but I've not read the whole thread but would he receive the same amount of prize money if he wins as a professional player would?

Er..No. He gets zilch, zero, nothing nada! That's the difference between being a Professional and an Amateur in Golf!
