I've noticed that quite a few people, and I'm not excluding myself from this, spend quite a bit of time on this board.

That got me to thinking what everyone does for a living where they can be afforded this luxury!! ;)

I'll kick off. I'm an IT project manager for a software company in London. Work in London Tuesday to Wednesday, and at home in Cornwall Monday and Friday.

I think everyone knows what I do!

Anyway, Redwood I'm interested to hear how you find the commuting? Do you drive or train it?

On that note how does everyone get to work?

I walk to my station (8 mins) then get overground train to Waterloo (25mins) and 10 min walk to GM towers at this end. Count myself as pretty lucky in that respect

I'm a manufacturing team leader. Work for GlaxoSmithKline in Maidenhead where we make toothpaste. Shift work. 2 days, 2 nights then 6 days off. Shifts are 12 hours long.

So get plenty of time to check the forum out.

Mike,

Yes, we all know what you do, a pretty cushy job.

I drive from Bude to Exeter on Tuesday morning (1 hour) train it to Paddington (roughly 2 hours), and then tube it to Liverpool Street (30 mins), and do the return journey on Thursday night (hence my post about the May issue yesterday!! ;) )

I'm the "manager" (I use the term very loosely) of a used car showroom which is tied to a bigger dealer group. Sell everything and anything ranging from £3k up to £20k.
Have been selling cars now for over 22 years, sick to death of it but it's the only thing I know. I've often thought of jacking it in and becoming a golf club secretary. I think that would be my ideal job

I'm an area manager working for the UK's largest independent Telecomms Contractor. We (my site anyway) undertake all copper, co-ax & fibre optic business works for Virgin Media.

It keeps the wolves from the door....and being the boss i can leave early to get the odd round in :)

I'm a domestic appliance technician for Bosch/Siemens/Neff covering south east Essex.
i'm normally on here evenings and weekends only but have the week off.....hence then crappy weather :)

Systems Analyst/implementation tester and Senior Engineer for a prosperous Pharmaceutical software company here covering both Northern and Southern Ireland.
edit: 15 miles away or 30 mins of mostly A and B roads, the B roads bit is the best!

I'm a Toolmaker by trade, and have had my own engineering company for the last 16 years. I live 4 miles from work, and drive so it takes 5 mins on a good day and 6 mins on a bad day.

Recruitment Consultant, usually spend about an hour in the car getting to work, about 45mins getting home. Usually listening to talksport.

Redwood - you don't need an experienced test manager who can work the same hours as you do you?

i'm a cornish boy living in the big smoke anxious to get back south!

If I hear anything I'll let you know. :)

BarCap eh. I don't suppose a couple of new systems have crossed your desk recently?

I'm also in IT. IT Projects Manager for GlaxoSmithKline as well Matt.

Based and live in Stevenage, so 5-10 mins by car into the office.

But I do have to go down to our HQ in Brentford a couple of days a week in the car. Which is anything between 1 hour to 3 hours depending on how much God hates me that day.

I am a design engineer / project manager for an electrical accessory manufacturer in North London. Commute is 1/2 hr by car, unless I am in China, when it is 12 1/2 hours by plane.

I am on here because I am bored. Too much CAD work does your head in. I am also waiting for a test to burst into flames. Nearly there.....

I am a Sales Manager for one of Britains oldest tool manufacturers. I cover the small bit of Britain that is from John O'groats to Barrow in Furness which is only 437 miles.......... As I told my boss, I do more miles than Santa. I would be interested to discuss tools with twiregolf (Eclipse) and KeefG could you tell me if fully insulated shovels would be used laying the cables you referred to?

Sorry for the blatant punt but I am known for approaching green keepers to ask where they buy their equipment...
