What do you think would happen to your handicap if you listed every round ?

The only reason I ask is that although a member of a club I don't have an official club handicap.

This is mostly due to having 3 yound kids, hence either getting out early for a knock Saturdays and Sundays before anyone else is up, or playing during work hours with clients/colleagues. Hence not having the opportunity to play with members to submit 3 cards and no real chance of getting out in the day to play the various comps

However, in order to track my game I enter all rounds on a golf website regardless of whether it's a good knock or an abysmal one to return an "unofficial" handipcap and see my progress.

This includes windy/wet weather (which is mostly the case on my links track) and as such I don't get shots for what would be potential shots given via CSS.

Of course I don't have the pressure of competition on the flip side.

Just curious to see what you guys think would happen if you did the same, or maybe some of you already do this.

Handicaps would probably be more accurate to the player IMO.

What you suggested is exactly what i do as i am also a non member with 3 young kids. I ensure i play "properly" ie dont take gimme's if i am scoring well etc. for me, i get a lot of 0.1's then every say 8/10 games get a decent cut. but i think my handicap is pretty accurate for when i am playing well. Would it hold up to a comp? i dont know, would a club handicap be higher or lower? i dont know. its a decent enough marker for me anyway.

Exactly this for me recently.

Lots of 0.1's, shooting mid 80's and then a decent round mid 70's and a decent cut back to where I started

My average stableford points I guess is around 33ish.

Was just curious that's all what people thought, i.e. if their handicap would be more or less or about the same as their club handicap.

I would hate it. I always play multiple balls and try new things.

I only get my game head on when the chips are down.

I've been using SS2 for many years now and virtually every round that I have played has been entered allowing automatic handicap adjustment - using SSS in all but qualifying rounds (when CSS is used).

Currently at 677 rounds recorded and handicap has always been near enough my club handicap or 1 under. The "1 under" I put down to the high number of 4BBB rounds I play where I enter the gimmies as only 1 putt as I never miss a gimmie! :smirk:

Pretty accurate for me, but there again I don't fall to pieces when I have a qualifying comp card in my hand.

I've been doing that this season as I added a handicap calculator to my EXCEL score tracker. Used the first three rounds to determine the handicap and then applied CONGU rules from there. Started at 5, gone up to 6 and down to 4. Currently at 4.5.

Handicaps would arguably be more accurate simply because the sample size would be larger. But it would also have the effect of changing how we play. If I play a casual round I will hit shots I wouldn't play with a card and pencil in my hand. Some if that is experimentation, others because I haven't hit a certain club in a while and want to give it a run out.
