I have seen DRONE FLYOVERs before but never a company whose business is this
(I have no connection before you ask)

Wondering what opinion was on this style v drone footage

Do you know of anyone else that does this?

It seems that if you have the skills you can do this from anywhere on the planet

This crowd have done it for concra wood. I am not a fan. It doesn't do a course justice imho.

I would say the one above the angle is too low.. you do not really get the panoramic effect, the course does look like it would be way better with real footage.

We have something similar on our website. If you go to the link in my signature andI click on course, and then holes, you will get the idea. We also have a tv screen in the locker room which shows the same.

Acutally I suspect that those CGI-flyovers will dwindle, now that camera drones have become more accessible and affordable. Using real footage is not only nicer (in my opinion), but also way cheaper. 3D-modelling is a lot of work and that makes it very expensive. The man-hours that go into it are unbelievable. If you have ever tried to design a course for a computer game, like the older EA Tiger Woods PGA games, you will know what I am talking about. Now, doing the drone flyovers and cutting together the material is probably more effort than appears on first sight. I would guess that they take several days on the course to film all holes and an equal amount for editing, but it does not come close to a 3D-modelling process.

Drone Flyovers v CGI Flyovers wouldn't affect me choosing to play a course.

Although saying that, If I owned a golf club I would want Drone Flyovers on the Club page.

I used to make courses for the Tiger Woods series, would get almost 1000 downloads on average.

Courses would take about 1-3 months of spare time. That includes the design, testing and modification.

I did however undertake the chllenge to do a course in under 24 hours.

I did it with less than 3 hours sleep and got a course in just in time. Turned out to be one of my top downloaded courses!

I hope to return to golf course design with the Golf Club 2 game, due early next year.

Looking at it

I think it really works in term of helping a new person know how to approach the hole
I find the guys voice grating as a visitor though, i could mute him and it would be useful

Good point about the norm being the actual footage.. i am converted to real footage only. .

We've got the flyover thing aswell with screens up in the clubhouse.

Must be honest I wondered what the point was when I first noticed them but they released an app for our club that is a gps and also has the flyover of each hole (and green detail) aswell which is pretty good.

On our App. there is a digital style course map, which can be used as a DMD.
